Consulate Review: Guatemala
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 27, 2011
Embassy Review : Our appointment was for 9:00 we got there a 7:30 because that's what the website said which worked out well cause we got an earlier number and got to wait inside and not out in the cold. They gave out the numbers and let everyone in around 8:00. Like everyone said you can't take cell phones, computers, cameras, USB drives or anything like that. There are people outside that will hold that stuff for you for about Q10.00. You can take in keys and food even though some of the people outside tell you different.

They start calling numbers around 8:30. Immigrant visas have a different number then NonImmigrant visas. Non-Immigrants get called in bunches quickly to get finger printed and put in another room. Immigrant visas are called one by one out of 3 windows. There they get your medical exam, appointment letter and ask some questions. They also asked for the policiacos and penales so even if you turned them in to the NVC. Then you sit down again until you're called to be fingerprinted then you have to wait to be called for the interview. There were two women doing the interviews both seemed very nice. A lot of people before us didn't have the right papers so make sure to bring everything if not they give you a yellow sheet with what you need and a new appointment time.
The interviewer just asked if my husband had been in the US before and since he had been in illegally for a few months. She was wanting some documentation of when he left but then said she would take his word since it was under oath. She then asked a little about why he came back to Guatemala and then why we got married there and if my family came for the wedding. They didn't want to see any travel records or pictures. Then she told us he was approved and to come back Monday at 3:30 to pick it up. All in all we left at 11:15 we would have gotten out earlier except the computers froze for a while.
To pick up the visa only one person can go in and they have to verify all the information before they can leave took about 20 minutes.
Rating : Very Good

POE Review: Fort Lauderdale
Event Description
Entry Date : 2011-10-24
Embassy Review : I love this POE much better than Miami. We went through the visitors line there was a flight that came in just before ours but the line moved fast. Once we were seen my husband got fingerprinted and they took his picture then took us to an office where there were already maybe a dozen people waiting from the other flight. I was able to wait there with my husband it took maybe 20 minutes max for one of the officers to call him asked him to sign something took a thumb print and we were free to go. Then just got our bags and flew through customs. Overall everyone was very nice and it was very smooth

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
