POE Review: Newark
Event Description
Entry Date : 2011-06-18
Embassy Review : I arrived at Newark on a Saturday night at about 10pm and so am not sure whether the Border Patrol were on a shift change or not, but the guy at the counter who called me forward was not happy when I handed over my brown packet and pasport with my K1 visa in. He was clearly agitated and opened the envelope and shuffled the papers around before taking my photo and fingerprints. He then told me he was taking me downstairs 'to sort all this out' and I was asked to follow him in the elevator to the next floor down.

I was then taken to the customs area next to the baggage collection where my pasport and envelope were given to another officer, who asked me if this was a K1 and then I was told he'd process it and I had to sit and wait in the seating area a few yards away until called back. I could see him looking through my paperwork and after about 10 minutes was called back up to the counter. He just said that everything was OK and that I had 90 days to get married and that I could go collect my luggage and go. That was it, no questions or anything.

So all in all quite a painless apart from a grumpy Border Patrol Officer at the start, but I put that down to him probably just at the end of his shift and didn't fancy processing a K1.
Harassment Level : Low

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
