I would firstly like to start off with saying that the interview is ALOT more pleasant than you would originally think. The staff are friendly and as long as you have your paperwork done correctly you will be fine!
I had my interview at the SYD consulate at 10 am in the MLC centre. I went to level 10 (consulate reception and security area) as it said on the appointment letter and waited in line to get my passport checked. As you wait in line there's this sign that tells you to have the following documents in order for the reception guy to check it. It was just your payment, passport, postage bag, and appointment letter. So I stood in line awkwardly trying to get my stuff out of my folder. So if you can help it, have these out before you enter the line.
While I was waiting there was actually another women who looked as nervous as me so we just started general chit chat and she was actually from VJ! so that was really cool!! So another tip, chat with the people around you, they are probably just as nervous as you, and having someone to talk to really makes you feel better!
So originally they sent me away and told me to come back at 10:00 because I had arrived at 9:30 (which I thought would be fine) But anyway, once I came back, I went through security, they take your bag and just tell you to take your documents and wallet. Then they send you up to level 59.
Once you get to level 59 you will enter another reception area and the women will check your passport and tell you to go through the door and take an immigrant ticket. Oh just a note the door is heavy! I had someone help me push this door open.
I entered and took a ticket and just as I was about to sit down my ticket number was called so I jumped back up and went over to the window. The lady was nice, we had a bit of a giggle because she couldn't get back on her chair LOL. Anyways, she checked through my documents and said "ok, well everything looks fine here" And I was thinking, well is this it? so I said "does that mean yes?" She just smiled at me and told me to take a seat and wait to be called for my interview. Gosh, I felt so dumb after that.
After about 5 minutes I was called up for an interview, REALLY nice American man. He was soooo friendly! The interview was more chit chat than an interview. He just checked over my paperwork and asked me basic questions like;
Is this your first marriage?
Is this Patrick's first marriage?
Do you have any kids?
Does he have any kids?
Where does he work?
When did you first meet?
How did you meet?
How long have you known each other?
Have you been to America?
He asked what my parents thought about our age difference, I'm 19 and his 28. I just told him my parents didn't mind, they have a larger age gap and can't judge haha. He just laughed.
Also, half way through I noticed my approval letter already sitting on top of my paperwork... So yeah, haha.
After he was finished, he just explained you need to marry within the 90 days once entering the U.S, then told me I was approved. He said "all that time for this hey!?" we both laughed at that.
So overall, very good experience! Don't think I would want to do it again. It was stressful the night before. But I think if you have made it that far to get to the interview stage you can pretty much be sure you will get the visa.
Good luck to everyone else!!! |

Firstly I would like to say that I was very upset with the way my interview went.
We were mailed our interview letter letting us know we had a 9:30 appointment at the Los Angeles USCIS building. Parking was impossible to find (probably due to the fact we got there particularly early). The Building was easy to find, its the same building the IRS is in so naturally there was a huge line to get it. We had got there 2 hours early (can't trust good ol' L.A traffic, so we would rather be early than super late) We decided to wait outside until a little closer to our interview time (big mistake).
We had lined up to get inside and go through security about 1 hour before our interview. The man who was directing people outside said it would be a good idea to get up there ASAP because its ALWAYS packed. So a word of advice to anyone with an interview, get there 2 hours early, line up, go through security, go to level 6 and sit down and wait. Because it will take 2 hours just to be seen regardless of what time your interview is at.
After waiting a ridiculous amount of time in a horrible looking room we were finally called for our interview. No introductions, just follow your interviewer to his office and stay standing up to swear an oath.
The interview itself was fairly painless, he asked for our proof of a bona fide marriage and for some reason instead of giving him proper documents (joint tax return, joint bank account etc) I went straight for the photos... he didn't really care about the photos all that much, he took a few he liked out of the pile, asked us where and what occasion it was in the photo. Toward the end of the interview he asked if that was all we had and I told we we had the joint tax return etc and he was like "well you should have given me that at the beginning" so, a note to everyone else. that's what they want first.
He told us there was only one thing he noticed with our packet and it was the medical side of it, we didn't file the vaccination form (I-693) because all the civil surgeon's were giving us a run around. Plus my medical expired 5 days ago... which if you ask me it's ridiculous. So the interviewer told us that as soon as you get that sorted and sent in, he will decide if we receive a green card.
As you could imagine, I was disappointed not getting good news, but the interviewer was just doing his job.
Hopefully I can get the problem sorted ASAP.
Good luck to everyone else to who has to go to this facility, I hope this review is somewhat helpful.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
