RFE for more details on out of country travel for prior five years. Sent it in May 7, approved June 23rd.
The agent who issued the RFE had the information on her screen but the “burden of proof†was on me. She was a bit snarky about this. |

We arrived On Wednesday July 13th for my medical at Medysis on Sherbrooke Ave in Montreal. Had a quick exam by the Dr. (tapped my knees, palpatated my tummy and a quick visual check to see if I was a female lol; blood work and chest x-ray) Professional and quick. $213.00 (USD)
Day before interview we stayed at the Holiday Inn Midtown, which is next door to the medical clinic to go pick up thje results, (they need three full business days to process your paperwork) and a 7 minute easy walk to the US Consulate. We did the walk-by to determine the location of the Consultate and the time to walk there.
Arrive at 6:35 am Tusday morning, first in line, my husband went around the corner to get a Timmies. :-)
The Consulate is on a side street, double glass doors, clearly marked, line up to the left. At 7:30 am doors opened, went through security. DO NOT take anything you do not need, I had a small purse plus my binder, they went through the purse and took out two memory sticks, a wall adaptor for my Iphone and dental floss. This took time and I wished I had left my purse at the hotel. No cell phones or big bags. Bring nothing you do not need.
We were directed down the stairs, sat by the elevator and waited for the security guard to come and escort us on the the elevator, face the back wall, hang to the left... you feel a littel silly but I saw three others do the same thing, aha! Visa Journey folks!! No one spoke to anybody, all too anxious I guess. :-)
It took us to the 19th floor and we were directed to a que for our numbers, I got C-1.
We sat in the middle section and waited until they started calling us maybe 10 minutes. The first gentleman took my passport, my medical records (not my chest x-ray) and my appointment letter. (I forgot to mention that to get into the building you need your appointment letter and your passport plus you show it to the gal who gives you your number)
He gave me back some photocopies of records I had sent in with my I-130 application. I was asked to sit down and wait for the next person to call me up. This was about 10 minutes more, she gave me all my original documents back, asked about my late husbands death certificate: if this was truly the right type of Death Certificate for a death in Alberta, which I said it was... got asked about the 5 years I lived in the USA when I was in my twenties, she wanted my Alien Registration number for that (it was on my I-130; then asked me to sit down and said the next window I would be called to; would be 7 or 8. I waited a bit longer here, two other ladies got called before me they were C-2 and C-3, so I was wondering what was up about that, but apparently nothing because I then got called up, got sworn in , plus my husband because he came with me to the window. She was very sweet, asked me how and when we met, when we got married, what we served at the reception, how many kids we have, was it a big wedding, what does my husband do, did he own his own company, where does he live, where will we live...easy answers.
I explained why I got refused entry to the USA the week before, (you need to give then 48 hours notice at that particular border before they will give you a parole to cross over which we had not done because at my local border crossing they were not so strict.) So no big issue there.
She also asked me about the Death Certificate from Alberta, I had to swear it was the legal document,(in Alberta the funeral homes issue the document not the government). She then gave me the "Welcome to the USA" letter and that was it!
I was terribly nervous which I think anyone would be because you just don't want to mess anything up but it was very smooth. We were outside of the consulate at 9:20am. Big smiles of course and in a daze because our 9 month Visa journey was finally over!!
We are very happy to have this over with and now our next step will be the AOS in two years to make it permanent. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
