I had my K1 visa interview yesterday, January 27, 2011 1pm! I'll never forget it because i got the visa and i'm insanely happy and also because it was my future father-in-law's birthday! so we had a lot of reasons to celebrate yesterday. Anyway, here's what happened yesterday at the consular section in Bucharest:
I got there at about 12.30 and we were told to wait outside untill someone would call on our names. At about 1pm a guy came and called our names and we were allowed to go in. They did a check on us and our bags and so on..I had 4 binders with all the paperwork my fiance and I did and it was like 7kilos A security guy from there offered to help me get to the room where we were told to just wait. At some point a lady called my name..i went to the window and she asked for my passport, birth certificate, medical exam results, Affidavit of support, etc. When she saw all the binders she said she would come out and i should hand it the binders like that. Then she told me to go and pay the $350 fee and bring her the receipt. I did that and then i had to wait to be called for the fingerprints stuff. In about 30 minutes after all that, i was called for the fingerprints. Both of the ladies i dealt with so far were very nice and friendly.After the fingerprints were taken, i just had to wait for the interview. I thought i'd be the last one for the interview since i was the last one for the fingerprints but no, I was the second person called for the interview which was around 2pm. I was a little bit nervous, but when i got to window 6 ( i remember the number):D there was a friendly consul at about 33 years old, i think. He was all smiling and it was more like a friendly talk than a serious interview.He asked who did all the paperwork since it was so organized and he looked really impressed when i told him that my fiancé did most of it and i only had to add some extra things. I was asked: 1. So, how did you two meet? 2.When did you have your first conversation? 3. When did he propose and how? 4. What did you say to him? 5. Do you know you have to get married in 90 days after you get there? 6. Will you plan a religious wedding ceremony?. The interview went pretty fast..it was less than 10 minutes. After all this, I was told to take a seat and just wait for the passport and visa to be issued. I had to wait for like an hour and a half to get the passport back, but i didn't mind that because i was waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too happy!!!! All i could think of was my fiance's reaction when i would tell him that i got the visa! So, at about 3.40pm i left the embassy with the passport and the binders back.
Overall, it was a nice experience, i felt nervous in the beginning, but the people were really nice, especially the young American consul guy! It's ok to feel nervous before the interview, but if you have all the paperwork well done and you have every piece of evidence you can think of in the binders, you're gonna be fine and the visa will be approved. Just be confident and have some faith in God! For us, it worked very very well! |
