Embassy Review : |
Finally home after a long but very exciting and successful day, my CR-1 approved!
Arrived at Bond street tube at around 7:10am, thought I would get there earlier although interview wasn't scheduled until 8:30am. Having a look around the square to see where the embassy was, how could I have missed it, very scary looking setup with armed police and security huts, saw Gould's chemist to the right and went and dropped off my phone for £3.00 I also asked for two more photos as I was a little worried that I might need them (I didn't) but for £4.00 better safe than sorry.
Arrived at the embassy at 7:30am they were already letting people in, so the line moved quite quickly, showed my interview letter and my old passport and new passport with married name, well this just confused the hell out of the guy checking my letter as it stated my maiden name not married name. Finally after 20 mins it was agreed that it was me and I could go back in the line. Went through security no problem, but at least 10 people made it into the security cabin only to be told they had to store an item (memory stick etc).
Once in the building lady on front desk with the sticker machine was nice and ultra efficient. Was told to wait near window 1 (there are 24) and then the wait began. Five mins in I had realised my water bottle had emptied all over my bag, nightmare, looked like a right dufus trying to clean it up. Now I start to panic, (1st problem outside, 2nd water spillage, oh no things usually come in threes, here I start thinking my visa is gonna be denied).
The N (non immigrant) visas are called quickly, and start from 100 the I visas start at 900 and I was 907, so guessed I had some time to wait, it strangely went quite quickly, windows 13 and 14 were initially calling the I visas (so don't see really why I was told to wait by window 1) however that did open at 10:00am. I was called to window 13 at 9:20. The really nice lady asked for my letter and passport at this point she changed my name back to the married surname and then stated she would get my file. She then went through it and asked how I had met my husband, general chit chat more than anything else. She asked if I had changed my name by deed poll which I had at one point and she said she couldn't find the document that I had submitted. It wasn't!! I then started to panic (inside) but she said it shouldn't make a big difference and that I should mail another certificate in. There was also a note added to the file which looked liked someone had stated I had overstayed a VWP back in 2000 (I had, and this had me worried) but she just skipped over it, possibly as it was relevant now. She then gave me my cd for the medical and chest xray. At this point she saw my daughters medical forms and asked about her application, I stated it was still backed up at the NVC and she made a note and removed it from my file and into a new one. She stated that if she hadnt seen it, when the file was destroyed my daughter's medical informatin would have been too (£95 saved). She then said it was fingerprint time and that I should wait back in the waiting area for my interview.
Things seemed to speed up a little after this, I903, 904, 905, 906 all called within 35 mins. My heart started racing thinking I was next, but I908 was called, crazy brain starts over analysing that something was wrong, but within 3 mins 907 window 15 was called.
A really nice older American guy had my file, handed back my original documents and went briefly through the file, although I do think at this point they are only really looking at the white check list the lady in window 13 had completed. He said that I had been told the deed poll was missing, but that he had it and therefore it wasn't needed, and then asked how I had met Mike, what he does for a living, what job I was planning on doing and when was I looking to travel. He was friendly and seemed interested in responses given. He then shuffled some papers and stated that everything looked good and that I had been approved. The lady from window 13 had written a note on the top of the white checklist stating about the note inside (possible VWP overstay) he read it but didn't say anything about it.
He then explained about timings of visa, that my passport would be stamped and what to do on POE. He was really helpful about SS, drivers license and said not to worry about my daughter's application, but make sure my POE is before the six months otherwise I would have to reapply (oh no). He then wished me luck and sent me to the courier service. £14.00 later (card, cash is not taken) I left the embassy the same way I went in. Picked up my phone (Goulds is a gold mine) and was all completed by 10:50am.
Thanks to everyone on VJ, you have all been a tremendous support. Just one more interview for the five year old and then we are USA bound |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
