There is very little I can say about the Embassy at Caracas; however, everything that I can say is very positive. The embassy has great customer service. If you contact them by email through their website they will answer all the questions within 3 days. We contacted the embassy by this method 3 times to ask questions about our appointment and two documents to make sure we had exactly what they needed, and a prompt response always came back. Please keep in mind that the mail system in Venezuela is to say the least…. terrible, and if the Embassy sends out paperwork, most likely it will not come to your fiancés address until is too late. Once I received the letter from the NVC I gave it 4 days and sent an email to the Embassy telling them we had all the required documentation for the interview, and they sent us back an email 2 days later with an appointment date and time. I highly recommend for everyone to look at their website; everything you will need is there. The embassy has very limited parking space and it will not open until 8:30, so if you have an earlier appointment, you will not be able to park your car, or the security at the embassy may close have it closed for the day, or it fills up very rapidly; I recommend that you take a taxi, to and from the Embassy to save aggravation and headaches.
The only thing you should have with you the day of the appointment is your paperwork, if it is inside carrying a file holder, it has to be transparent, you cannot have a phone, cameras, or anything that is sharp such a tweezers, etc. they are very strict. When you go in and pass through the checkpoint they will direct you to where you need to go, which is to the immigrant section, where you will take a ticket and wait for your turn. One person will call you and take your paperwork, and instruct you to pay the fee. As of the day of this interview it was calculated at 2.6 BSF per 1USD. The only fee we were charged was for the visa that is readable on the scanners at POE. The fee was $350USD they only take cash in BSF or USD.
After paying this fee you turn your receipt in, and wait for your name to be called at this time the second part of the interview will take place. They will ask questions about your inlaws, their names, work, about your fiancé, how you met, how long you have been together etc, but you should be good if you have good communication. After everything is approved they will give instruction to your fiancé, what to do, what they will send him/her, and how to proceed. In a nut shell they will send her through DHL her passport, and envelope that must remain sealed until her POE.
They will give him/her back the second portion of the DS230 and the X-Ray which they will need to have with her at POE. They will give them a white slip, keep the passport, and keep the documents they need, make sure to bring copies so that your fiancé can keep the originals of her birth certificate and her personal documents.
With the white slip she/he will go to the DHL office at the entrance of the embassy pay them for them to send the passport and documents to a DHL office or an address. It will take aprox 10 working days for the embassy to process the visa, plus delivery time for DHL.
Overall we are very satisfied with the experience, and friendliness of the embassy staff, and prompt response to all the questions we had.
keep in mind you dont send any type of mail to the embassy at Caracas as of the day of our interview, you bring EVERYTHING that is required for the interview with you to the interview.
