Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada

Embassy Review :
Let me start by thanking everyone who had posted their reviews and suggestions for others to follow. Thank you visa journey for helping us through this long journey.

Here is my review:

Flew from Vancouver to Montreal the day before and went to find exactly where the consulate was. We stayed at Days Inn, which is about 5 blocks away from the consulate.

We arrived at the consulate at 6.30 am and were first in line. A girl for K1 came along with her mother. But about at 7 people started to come in and the line got longer and longer. At 7.30 the guards opened the door and asked for confirmation letter and passport for everyone. After going through the security (like at airport) we went down the stairs and sat in the chairs left of the elevator. We were in the room for about 25 minutes after which a guard came by and took us all up who were applying for the immigrant visas.

Once up in the main room on 19th floor, we formed a line in front of the windown 14A/14B where we had to submit the passport and confirmation letter and the lady behind the counter provided each one with a token number. We got C3.
After which we were told to sit in the middle of the chairs right in front of the kids playing area which had a monitor right in front where token numbers would be displayed along with the window number.

We sat there for about 15 minutes after which we were called at window number 12. There a nice lady asked me which visa I was applying for and asked me for the following documents:

1. Spouse's 2010 tax return
2. Spouse's 2010 tax transcript from IRS
3. 2 photos
4. Passport & confirmation letter

She then took my finger print on the electronic finger printing machine. Darn..wasn't able to get my smallest finger, hence she asked me to press the smallest finger with other hand. Finally the finger prints were all clear and good to go. She said, she has all the papers and then finally asked me to go through the DS 230. Since there were no changes, I checked them quickly and told her that it all looks good. After which she said good luck and asked me to wait in the waiting room for my interview.

We waited for another 15 to 20 minutes after which we were called to window 8 where the dread locked lady was there. I was already nervous by then, my wife was there with me too which was a great support. She asked us both to raise hands and swear that we will tell the truth.

She opened my files and started going through our papers. She checked my spouses 2010 tax returns, affidavit of support. After which she asked us following questions:

1. How did we meet?
2. When did we meet?
3. How did you maintain the long distance relationship?
4. What does your wife do?
5. where does she live in the states?

And I think one or two more other questions, can't remember. After which she started typing things in the computer for about 2 minutes. My heart was pounding and I am sure my wife's was too. She did not say anything for the whole time while she was typing. After which she again opened some papers and went through them. Suddenly she got up and then walked towards the printer. I saw her bringing a bundle of papers and 10,000 thoughts were going through my mind like whats going on...and finally as she came back to the window, she said I approve you and passed us the Welcome to USA letter. We both were so glad to hear those words and we thanked her very much. I had tears in my eyes and so did my wife.

We started to walk out of the booth and I gave my wife a big hug and a kiss on her forehead. Outside, walked to the lady at the desk, told her we were done with the interview and she confirmed with us about the DHL, wished others in the room good luck and we were off and out of the consulate by 9.15 am. There were still people going up for the interviews.

Now..the wait for the passport/DHL and then the POE...hopefully within 2 or 3 weeks. Wish you all a good luck and thank you all once again for sharing the information here on Visa Journey.

Cheers
Sue
