Consulate Review: Moscow, Russia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 20, 2010
Embassy Review : Our K-1 has our proxy marriage. So it had a few different details from regular k-1. Woman at #5 embassy window who takes papers was very unfriendly. She told Natasha wrong information. We had talked about how to deal with such possible problem. Nastasha follow directions given before day of interview. Consul officer was professional and friendly. Natasha had greeted him in English and they spoke the whole time in English. (He gave her choice of using Russian or English language.) Natasha gave him our papers about non-consummated proxy wedding, with copy of page from U.S. Department of State Foreign Affairs Manual Volume 9 - Visas 9 FAM 40.1 Notes on unconsummated proxy marriage. He smiled and looked at them for a few seconds. He keyed some information from manual page into his notes. He asked a few, very basic questions about our wedding. He also asked the standard questions listed in the review posted here from July of this year. So I will not repeat them here. After 15 minutes, he gave approval. She had waited about 3 hours for interview. We now wait for DHL to send passport with visa.

Local US CIS Office Review: Columbus OH
Review Topic: cis_topic
Event Description
Review Date : June 28, 2011
Embassy Review : Our appointment was for 8AM. We were taken in 20 minutes late. The man questioned our Texas state wedding as not being valid!!!!! We had a legal marrage done in accord with Texas marriage law. We had the proper legal papers to show it. Yet he claimed it was not valid! We had to show him ever small detailed piece of paper from the wedding. I am glad we did not throw out some of the junk papers after the wedding. I am also glad we carried them with to the interview. The questions and comments were at time not professional nor proper. What happened at the interview mades me embarrassed to be an American!

After 35 minutes defending a legal and proper fully documented Texas wedding, they were not happy with the shoot records. So we had to go see a Civil Sur. to get them approved. Only two of the 30+ listed doctors in Columbus area will do only the shoot records. All the rest demanded $300+ for a full physical. After getting the shoot records to the office, we were approved. (A process that ended up taking 2+weeks.)

The only good thing I can say about the Columbus CIS office is the security screening people were polite and professional. As to the rest of the staff, I will simply say they were very unprofessional.

I regret 0 is the lowest rating I can give!
Harassment Level : Very Poor

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
