POE Review: CDN-USA Border
Event Description
Entry Date : 2009-11-20
Embassy Review : I took the evening Amtrak to Seattle. It was a very pleasant experience. I was coming to spend thanksgiving with my son and his father. While here we finally decided to submit papers for my greencard (I had wanted him to move to Canada-but i finally gave in )

The immigration officer at Vancouver Central Greyhound Station did a brief interview (just like at the airport). Where are you going/Why are you going/looked at return ticket. I was intending to go back in two weeks. But it didnt happen as we filed 485. Now i have to wait for greencard as we didnt apply for AP. I Think my hubby was afraid i'd change my mind if i went back to Canada... I probably would have.........lol

The officer only gets there an hour before the train leaves. There was maybe 20 passengers but it was a long train. They have single seats just like an airplane in the first car. There was a huge very clean automated bathroom (the door is automatatic-worth seeing even if u dont pee). The next car in front was a food car. I had the roasted salmon dinner with a rootbeer. There was a customs declaration i filled out right before the border.

The train stops at the border and about 4-5 customs agents came on board and take your forms. They ask you the same questions that they do if you are driving over the border. Where are you going, how long, can i see your passport.. The total time the trained stopped at the border was maybe 10 minutes. Then we were merrily on our way...

I never imagined i wouldnt be at the winter olympics in my hometown but my hubby gave me an ultimatum. But i gave in due to my son as he is starting kindergarten in sept and he needs the stability of mom and dad beeing in the same house and same country...

So as i just got approved for EAD i have to start my career and life all over in this new country....

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.

** Not all cases are transfered
