Interview date: Tuesday, October 5th, 2010 at 7:15am
My husband and I arrived at the consulate at 6:15am and there were people waiting in line already. At 7:15 they started to let us in. We went to the little room in the back. A guy came in a made everyone raise the right hand and swear to tell the truth. Around 8:30am they started calling people to windows 3, 4, and 5 (where the Ecuadorians start to take the paperwork and all proof you take) and Window 1 was the American that interview you through the little speaker where everyone is able to hear everything that they ask you. Everything seemed to be going smooth for all the other petitions that were not CR1/IR1/K3/K1. I saw like 3 different people who had kids that they were asked to come back with a DNA test.
Around 10:30am only 5 of us were left, they called my husband to window 4. I went to the window with him and it was an Ecuadorian lady (mid 40's) which gave my husband some paperwork back and started asking him the usual questions:
How we met? When did we meet? Did we have a religious wedding? Where did we go for our Honeymoon? If he ever been to the US? and then she asked me How many times have i gone back to visit him? and thats when i said "April 2003 (we met), went back (Jun 04, July 05, June 07, July 09, Oct 09, Nov 09, Dec 09, Feb 2010, May 2010, July 2010, Sept 2010 and the one for the interview Oct 2010.) So after i said all that she asked me "So do you work?" and i said yes a part time job so then she asked how was i allowed to miss work so much and i just said i have vacation time and then she asked "who pays for all there trips?" and i said we both do, so then she asked my husband where does he work and how much he makes a month?
After that was said, she was going to make us sit down and i asked her if i can give her all the proof and she said ok so I made a scrapbook that didnt fit through the little window slot BUT I had also made an extra set of all the pictures that were in the original scrapbook and gave her all the loose pics (around 150 with labels & dates on it) and then i gave the rest of proof like:
Wedding receipts, banquet hall receipts, honeymoon/hotel receipts and boarding passes that we used to fly to Quito for our Honeymoon, ALL my boarding passes Miami-Guayaquil since 2004 and copies of my passport pages with all the stamps, letters, print out of our facebook profiles, all our emails and a phone log. (Note: I made a cover page for each type of proof, like for my wedding, I typed a page that said Wedding: and bullet points in order of every thing that the clip was holding like receipt for bacnquet hall, church letter, etc so it was easier for her to review my proof)
After we gave her all that we were told to go sit down and wait to be interview by the American Consul
Around 11:30am we were called to window 1. My husband got his fingerprints done and i said hi to her in English (She seemed nice, Mid 30's) While he was doing his fingerprints i told her about my scrapbook that didnt fit through the window but I can show it to her if she wanted, she smiled and said "no thanks, you gave me enough of proof already) so i just smiled back. then she said "by the way you are so organized in the way you turn in everything" and i smiled again and said thanks. So then she asked my husband questions in spanish:
Like "how was your honeymoon in montañita?" and I said "We didnt go to montañita, we went to Quito" and she said "Ohhh you guys are the ones that went to the Swisshotel" and i just said yes. (I dont know if that was a tricky question) then she just asked him If he had family in the US? my husband said yes then she asked "Where do your parents live?" and he said here in Ecuador, she asked "what about your brothers and sisters? he said here in Ecuador as well, then she asked me who was the person that introduce us and i said My cousin who is also his sister in law and then she asked where does she live? and I said here in Ecuador and the last question was "In which church did you guys get married?" and i said the name of the church and she said "Congratulations ESTAS APROVADO" and gave us the DHL paper We said thank u and left the building.
This is regarding two other people that were being interview that day:
There was a girl (without her husband) and a guy (without his wife there) they told me that their spouses couldnt make it to the interview so they had to go alone. They went to the same process we did, the only difference is that when they were finally interviewed by the American they were asked some questions and were told to go sit down and wait some more and then they were called again and more questions and after that they were approved!
(They were approved without their spouses being present at the interview)
The only thing that i did realized its that they gave the girl a hard time, the Consul asked her for her email to look for her facebook account and then since she couldnt find her facebook the girl ended up giving the Consul her loggin infor with password and everything so they took a while checking her stuff and then she was called to the window again and they finally approved her petition. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
