Embassy Review : |
*Interview actually occurred at Guayaquil.
7:25 Left Hotel Alborada (seems very safe, we have stayed here 4 or 5 nights, 40 bucks per night)
7:48 V and I arrived upstairs of immigration office through immigrant visa line (much shorter at 3 people instead of ~40 people). There were 0 people in the citizen line, but I chose to go with V through the immigration line.
*Guards unsure of proper location for K visa applicants, we decide to hang out upstairs – this turns out to be correct. Upstairs is “residencia”. Guards went through our accordion file of evidence and opened our XRAY document .
7:59 We questioned whether we should be downstairs, went down, and came back up after still being unsure.
8:09 V refused to bring chompa to interview (despite VJ guidance), she now realizes that is a mistake
8:15 “This place is freaking cold” –V
8:16 “that was just a joke, you don’t have to put that down” –V
8:35 Man comes upstairs, gives oath, and long speech about being truthful, direct, etc
9:35 We are told to go downstairs since it is less busy (and warmer)
9:41 “I told you I didn’t need a chompa” –V
10:14 Called to downstairs window 3, submitted documents to an Ecuadorian. He returned I129F cover sheet, and V’s passport photo submitted in I-129 packet. He also refuses to take tax transcripts and letters from relatives and reaffirmation of intent to marry letter, but keeps w-2, photos, emails, doctor envelope, I-134. He keeps V’s DS156/DS156K, medical, police record and birth certificate but returns the translation of the birth certificate and returns the translation of the police record. The Ecuadorian informs us that because a few strands of hair are on V’s ear he is rejecting our visa picture – I about lose it. Fortunately, he gives V a reentry pass to go and get new pictures at the place next door. Ironically the new replacement pictures have almost as much hair covering her ear… I suspect employee has a deal with the nearby picture place? He asks V to confirm her address, cell phone number, phone number, occupation, that she had a J-1 visa she didn’t overstay, asked if either of us had children, if we were married, etc.
10:28 V returns with new photos
10:31 Interview with Ecuadorian continues
10:36 Interview with Ecuadorian completed
10:47 Interview with Brunette American woman at downstairs window 2 (she asks how many times I visited, if she met my family, what cities we have visited in Ecuador, about my job 5 years ago?, our primary language we speak). She also does finger prints which V struggles with to get enough pressure for a good reading.
10:53 Purple sheet – Approved!
1103 Paid DHL
V and I noticed that the last 2 groups interviewed on this day were us (K-1) and another woman and child (K-3). The only problem we ran into was the picture issue. HOWEVER, we observed that the woman seeking the K-3 visa was denied because her husband was not present. She was told that despite her evidence, DNA test of her child, etc, that if he wasn’t there, no visa. She explained he was working in Alaska and it was difficult to come, etc – didn’t matter at all… I give the embassy a 4 star (on our behalf) and a 0 star on the K-3 applicant’s behalf, averaging to a 2 star experience.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
