Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada

Event Description

Embassy Review : Interview at February 19, 2013:
Was there at 7:00am and ended up 4th in line. When they opened the doors, the officer ushered in 4 people at a time. A woman asked for my Courier confirmation and passport and wrote the courier number on the back of the passport. Then we went up through security (which is just like the airport on a much smaller scale). The officer then directed me downstairs and said to wait.
It may have been 20 minutes or so when another officer came down and opened the elevator. (Sit as close as you can to the elevator - it helps!) He squished us all in and I was at the back left corner behind one other woman.
When the doors opened we followed the yellow arrows to the left and to the cashier who gave us tickets (I got C2!)
I was called up to window 2 not long after and gave her my passport, photos, original birth certificate, divorce certificate, marriage certificate and the original police certificate. She also asked for the original affidavit. She then took my fingerprints and told me to sit back down and wait to be called again.
After 20 minutes, I was called to window 9. The lady asked me to read the Oath off a printout. Then she confirmed my husband\'s name and asked if he was with me (He wasn\'t). She gave me back my original documents.
She confirmed that I had been married 2 times before (which wasn\'t the case; I was married once before. She said she must have confused the paperwork and asked for the divorce decree back and looked at our marriage certificate again. Then asked for my husband\'s divorce decree which I didn\'t have. After looking through my file she found a copy and was satisfied.)
She asked me 4 questions: how we met, asked what our courtship was like, what he did for a living, and how often we saw each other.
After a few minutes she said, \"Congratulations!\" I said \"That\'s it? It\'s done?\" She laughed and said \"that\'s it\" and handed me the Welcome letter.
I was out the front door by 8:50 am and couldn\'t stop grinning the entire way back to my hotel.

POE Review: CDN-USA Border
Event Description
Entry Date : 2013-05-30
Embassy Review : I crossed at Port of Regway/Port of Raymond on Saskatchewan-Montana border with a 14-foot Uhaul towing my car.
We arrived and informed the officer we were endorsing my Visa. He said he had just gone through this 3 weeks ago with his own wife - my response? FANTASTIC!
I also mentioned that we had been married for over 2 years and asked for the IR-1 stamp. The officer informed me that they didn't make that decision, that if it was a CR-1, they stamped it as such. (I didn't want to cause problems so I agreed.)
He asked if I owned the things in the Uhaul and if I was importing my car. Then another officer came out and asked for my car information (the insurance and registration) which I gave her. The first officer asked if my car had a sticker; I told him I thought it may be on the driver's door, but I was unsure. They had us pull ahead, park, open the uhaul and pop the hood of my car.
We went inside and the second officer asked me how much I thought my car was worth then had me sign the import form. That was done.
The first officer checked in the back of the uhaul - which all he really did was look around and jump out - then checked the hood of my car.
A third officer filled out all the forms and opened the "Do Not Open" package (which is just a copy of everything you gave USCIS).
I gave my fingerprint, signed my name in a VERY small box, and he shook my hand and welcomed me to America.

We were there a total of 45 minutes and everything went smoothly (with the exception of the CR-1 stamp instead of the IR-1).

I would recommend this crossing.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
