Comments : I had a very rough time at Biometrics. My recommendation to Japanese K-1 holder: take your SSN card or military ID with your married name on along with your passport as your ID. I just hope that nobody else will have the same experience as I had, it was awful!

Update as of 29 Sep 10: When I went to an appointment with USCIS on Navy base, I found out that my biometrics have been rejected that was taken back in March 10 but I have never heard from them. I called so many times but they only told us just wait it's only been XX months since I started calling in May 10.

Luckly they re-took my biometrics ther e then, so I hope thing will get faster, although I don't see any update on Status check on line.

Update as of 8 Oct 10: We made an appointment with Infopass. Not much of progress, but we could make sure that our case is being processed and getting ready to have an interview appointment. We were told that this case shouldn't take this long, it should've been done already. He also said normally AOS from K-1 takes 3~4 months.

Inspite of receiving multiple letters from Providence office to re-do the biometrics at their office a few months after notifying the change of my address...we finally got a notice of interview in Los Angeles!

Comments : 2012-9-11: Check was cashed.

2012-9-26: Called USCIS but the officer told me to wait 30 days from NOA date for them to process.

2012-10-11: Called USCIS but Biometrics appointment is on process in the next few days and call back in the end of October.

2012-10-26: Called USCIS but told me to wait 45 days from NOA date which has passed already. But the officer still told me to wait the next few days then put some request for biometrics appointment. My spouse told him to see if he could just request now...then he said he did.

2012-11-13: Finally it's been over 2 months, I received the appointment letter scheduled on 23 Nov which I couldn't make due to the trip to Japan.

2012-11-14: I went to local office with appointment letter to see if they could do my biometrics sooner and they did since luckily the office was empty that day so they processed it. This local office in CA was excellent by the way compared to one in RI.

20130406: I called several times to make sure my request is on going since we had a mistake on address change. Everything seems to be in order at this moment and the representative told me I'd hear from USCIS about the result sometime in the beginning of June.

20130415: Approval letter was issued and received it on 23 April. Now waiting GC to be arrived but they got the wrong address even though this letter made it to me. Last time I spoke with him, he said he got the right address there in the system...so now I'm worried about my GC, where are they sending it to?

Embassy Review : Thank you everyone who is updating all the information and posting your experiences here!

Everything over there went smooth. You will be explained step-by-step, so no confusion or anything. I arrived at the embassy at 08:00 and left there before 09:30.

I was called fourt times to the different windows.
1. Turn all required documents.
2. For the fingerprint.
3. Return unnecessary documents back to me.
4. Interview (Only this time I was called with my full name.)

Everyone I had to deal with was very friendly and nice. Interview took only a few minutes. It was more like just regular conversation instead of Visa interview.

Tips from me: Glue your passport size photo and the reciept for the visa fee on a designated place on a copy of DS156 and have another one without them. And don't staple together! Also arrive there very early and have some coffee near by so you won't hit the rush hour. In that case you don't have to worry about your x-ray getting smashed. Also you will feel more calm when you get to the embassy I think

...that would be all.

POE Review: Washington DC
Event Description
Entry Date : 2010-01-13
Embassy Review : I entered the US through Washington Dulles Airport. I was stopped at the immigration and was asked what I did in the US in 1994. Not sure why he kept asking me about 1994 and my recent entries in the US.

I was sent over to the small room...and I found out that they were accusing me for an overstay of 1994 that I have never done. Why now it become an issue when I could come to the US 26 times after that visit.

Small room was very scary. Officer was yelling at people. I was also upset at first that they put my envelope aside from any others and left me alone for an about 30 minutes, and all the other people who came after me were called before me.

1 hour later, they finally called my name and still asked me about my illegal stay in 1994. And they told me they need to check my status in the system more and need a few more minutes...but it ended up over 30 minutes. They said I still show in their system that I did an illegal stay in 1994 and they will try to fix it but can't gurrantee that they could, but I am ok to go...not really sure what was going on, but it feel that they forgot to check something and when they did it showed I was ok to go...or something like that. I hope this won't be an issue when I apply for AOS.

Of course, I missed my connecting flight. The next flight was 5 hours later...and finally my fiance and I reunited 26 hours later since I left my house in Japan!!

I just hope other people who go through this airport won't have the same bad experience as me. I am scared if I have to go through this airport again. Good luck everyone!!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
