I accompanied Nadiana to her Dec 3, 2009 interview for a US K1 (90 day) visa, aka "sweetheart visa" at the US consulate in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. We arrived at 9:15 for a 9:30 appt. After a brief time standing in line outside the consulate, we were ushered into a room in the main building (with the usual airport style security checks) After a brief wait, they took Nadiana's documents and told us to come back at 1:30. We came back at 1:15, repeating the morning's procedure. We ended up talking to a pleasant man around 40 years old who asked us a few perfunctory questions - how did we meet, have we been married, what did I do for a living, and that was it. He had spent time in San Francisco and we chatted a bit about that. He knew where I lived and told Nadiana she was moving to a good location. He seemed to like that we had a picture of us with Nadiana's father sitting together smiling. I was told family support is important and perhaps it was. Pretty smooth sailing - no problems. |

I had my interview on October 7th, 2010. The interviewer a bit cold and she basically asked me 3 terrorist questions. She asked Paul when and where we first met, where his parents live, have I met them and where we travel together outside US? She never ask to see all the supporting documents (wedding photos, joint back account and etc). She review all the AOS forms that we submitted before and she said all the documents seem to be fine. She handed us a paper written "For Further Review" and we'll get the result within 4 weeks. The interview only took 5-10 mins.
I received my NOA saying my application for permanent residence has been approved on October 15th and my conditional of green card arrived on October 18th.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
