Comments : Received an RFE for my birth certificate (to prove relationship to father, who filled out I-864A) on 10/19. Sent evidence prior to issuance of RFE (realized I hadn't sent it before they did) and it was delivered on Oct. 16th, 2009. Took them nearly three weeks to acknowledge the RFE. (November 3rd, 2009.) Login failed on November 5th, 2009, and case complete on November 9th, 2009.

Moral of the story: DO NOT pre-empt the RFE process. Wait for it and send in the new cover sheet.

UPDATE as of 1/13 - Approved, pending Administrative Processing. Now I just wait and hope.

2/04 - We're approved!

2/15 - Showed up at the embassy, was told to return on Thursday (2/18) to pick up visa.

2/18 - Got the visa! WOOOOOOOOOOO!

2/19 - POE Atlanta, GA. Went smoothly, and her green card is on the way!

Port of Entry : Atlanta
POE Date : 2010-02-19

Biometrics Taken : Yes
Harassment Level : 0
Comments : Went very smoothly. We arrived early in the morning (~6 AM). Passport control placed my wife's information in a green envelope and instructed us to enter an office to the right of the baggage claim. Went there, sat for about 45 minutes as one consular officer processed about four people before us. Afterwards, he asked us no questions, simply filled out the paperwork, confirmed our US address, took my wife's fingerprints, let us know the green card was coming, and wished us well. Very positive (if somewhat slow, due to the backlog) experience.

Oath Ceremony : 2013-04-17
Comments : The courthouse doesn't allow any cell phones or electronic devices, so make sure to bring a book or something else to keep you occupied. Once in, the ceremony takes a few hours--everyone shuffles in, gets their packet, gives their name, and it takes around an hour before the judge appears. Once the judge appears, the ceremony lasts around an hour and a half. Our ceremony was scheduled for 10 AM and we were out by 12:30 - 1 PM.

Consulate Review: United Arab Emirates
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : January 14, 2010
Embassy Review : The embassy staff were polite, but we had very long waiting times, with no apparent system. Even though we arrived before many applicants, and submitted our evidence earlier (you\'re called to a window twice, once to submit medical exams/other info, the second time for the actual interview) we were one of the last applicants interviewed. The waiting room was clean and included toys for children.

All in all, it was an average experience. Our appt. was at 10:30 AM: we arrived at 9 AM, were let into the embassy at 10 AM, submitted our initial evidence around 10:30 AM, but didn\'t actually have the interview until nearly 1 PM. We were placed on AP, as were the majority of Iranian applicants. There were roughly 12 Iranians at the embassy, and only 3 received their visas the following day: a DV winner, an elderly grandmother, and half of a married couple. (The wife\'s visa was cleared, the husband\'s required AP.) No one applying for a spouse or fiance visa was approved the same day.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
