After the initial confusion over the Medical and getting an RFE for that once it was resolved AOS was quick to finish the application. We were truly blessed for everything to go so smoothly. I think everyone should always be prepared for anything though in dealing with teh immigration process. |

Forgive me for posting embassy review so late as I was dealing with a loss in my family that happened shortly after interview.
My fiancés interview was at 8am Monday on Dec 21, 2009 and for some reason he left on Daewoo late Sunday night to Islamabad (11pm I think). I was upset he didn’t go and be there Sunday night in advance but I figured this is how he needed to do things so I trusted his decision. He didn’t get much rest and I don’t suggest others do what he did but everyone is different in how they handle stressful situations .
Everything went just as we had expected from reading about others experiences at interview day on VJ. There were no problems with the shuttle or scanning to get thru security with our stack of papers or anything. The whole process went VERY smooth. After waiting awhile, Akhlaq had his fingerprints taken then the same man asked in which language he wanted to conduct his interview. He said it did not matter and noticed a serious looking Pakistani man standing behind him so the English speaking man said he would be fine to do in English and the Paki interviewer stepped away. I really feel during the interview if you try to conduct it in English it is more positive and friendly(this is just my opinion though). The interviewer never asked to see even one piece of our supporting/ documenting proof of relationship but we were extremely lucky. I made sure Akhlaq had a lot of pictures, cards, receipts, voice chat longs, phone records, email chats, and all types of other correspondence just in case. Be more than 'prepared' at all costs even if they don’t ask to see anything in person. We didn’t want to take any chance to be denied. The interviewer asked questions such as these and was putting short answers into his computer as Akhlaq spoke:
*Where does your fiancée live? Who does she live with and has she told you about Virginia? What did she tell you about VA?
*When was she here in Pakistan? How long did she stay? And this is when you became engaged?
*What does she do for work?
*When did you talk to her last?
(The interviewer smiled & said “Nice”, when Akhlaq said “Just before I deposited phone to board shuttle.” ) You know we were both so nervous he had actually called like 4 times at this point!..... Honey, I’m going to shuttle area…….then, I’m here now at shuttle area and will call you after going to washroom…….. then, Ok I’m just waiting to board shuttle…………..and last, Ok, this is last time to talk until after interview. LOL
Akhlaq said it seemed they had already gone thru our file thoroughly and made decision that we were approved after the interview. He was told that everything is Ok but have to go thru AP (we were mentally ready to hear that). He gave Akhlaq back our pictures from the original file, his original birth certificate and then he signed the DS-230 part II and they kept his passport (THANKS GOD) and said he would be contacted. We both were shocked he was out at 9am!! They also gave Akhlaq a green piece of paper which says he has to bring with him to pick up passport. We were told he needs his ID more than anything so I hope that is enough. After inspection we both realized that the case# they wrote on it belongs to some other poor soul. I emailed the embassy about this on Jan 8 but still no response and could never get thru on the phone to them. I’m quite bothered by this that they would be so negligent by not paying attention and putting the wrong case# on a paper when working a file. I’m always so careful not to make a mistake submitting forms and I’m shocked at their lack of attention to detail. After all, its people lives we’re talking about here. In the end I am VERY thankful Akhlaq had a positive experience at the embassy. He actually got sick though after the interview and was forced to stay over in Islamabad overnight. I guess the worry and stress of the experience got to him. Inshallah these next weeks of AP will go by smoothly and I pray it’s not too horribly long and no other problems come up. I’m worried about that wrong case#, I hope they respond to my email at some point.
