Consulate Review: Guangzhou, China
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : December 5, 2009
Embassy Review : Brief overview:
- Consulate contacted Hui by phone just after submitting P-3, concerning an e-mail I sent to change her e-mail address. I spoke to the lady on the phone, and explained the change. Then Hui was asked if we were already married (since I was here), of course no... Then the lady informed me that our interview was scheduled on Dec 3, and packet 4 would arrive soon. (very nice on the phone, and very helpful!)

- I attended citizens hour on Monday before the interview. All of my concerns were addressed and all questions answered. Blunt, but answered. The lady I talked with told me that our differing languages would be a problem...

- December 3, Interview:
-- The entry to building was similar to all other reviews, so I will not bore you.
-- She entered about 7:45, and exited about 12:40. She had a smile, subdued, but a smile. She had received a white paper called a "Call-In Letter", simply requiring CORRECTLY notarized police and unmarried certificates. We will return to GUZ next week with these, and (the notice says) she WILL receive her visa within 2 days.
-- We had done the kitchen sink preparation. We decided to be safe, so we even took all of the plumbing (with the sink). However, once her actual interview began, the ONLY documents that were asked for, or even seen were our photos, and then a third copy of the I-134 that they wanted to keep (I do not know why 3 copies, but they wanted it and I had told Hui to give them anything they asked for, and of course, we had a third copy in the "kitchen sink").
-- Hui was asked how we met and when we met. Then she was told the police and unmarried documents were not notarized correctly, so she would be denied! The lady told Hui that she believed Hui was trying to deceive me! Hui quickly explained the preparation that I had done for the interview, showed her the huge file of documents that had not been seen, and pleaded ignorance of the incorrect documents. The lady looked Hui straight in the eyes for a long moment, mentioned that she was the same person that I spoke with for citizens hour on Monday, then discarded whatever form she had already began (for denial), and instead, gave Hui the Call-in Letter!

-- So, overall, I think the lady at the consulate was truly trying to "protect me", the American citizen from possible deception on Hui's part.

Bottom line, we will have a visa next week!!!!
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
