Called DoS November 2, 2009 to inquire about never receiving packet 3, and they stated that the London Embassy prepared packet 3 to send on September 16, 2009. They said that we should have received it by now, and that the next step would be to call the embassy which would cost $16.00 for the call (or 120p/minute within the UK only)!
We never called and proceeded to send in the DS forms and checklist anyway. |

Our interview was issued on the 4th of january 2010 for the 4th of february 2010. We booked a room at the kensington rooms hotel for 3 nights for the price of £225 "breakfast" included. We were put in a quiet room so there wasnt much noise from the streets or rooms around us.
We took the train from Skipton to Leeds then to Kings Cross London Station (£176 super off peak return for 2 adults), then took the picadilly line underground 10 stops away to Gloucester Road. The hotel was only about a 10 minute walk away from the underground.
The morning before, we decided to take the bus to the embassy to see how long it would take to get there. The bus stop is right across from the hotel, and we took bus #74 to marble arch. The embassy is about a 10 minute walk from the bus stop. From there we walked down South Audley Street and found a nice tea room for breakfast about 2 minutes away on the left side. Right next door is a pharmacy where we got my 2 passport pictures for £7.
The morning of my interview, we arrived outside the embassy at 7:30am for my 9:00am interview. It took about 30 minutes to get through the line and security into the embassy. There are about 3 different lines.. 1st they check your letter and passport, and they ask you to put anything metal in a bag (make sure you dont have any electronics or music greeting cards), next we waited in another line where they checked our passports and interview letter again, finally we waited in a 3rd line to be called into the security booth. There they scanned our bags and made us walk through the scanner as well.
We entered the building, where they checked our letter once again, gave us a number, and asked us to take a seat to be called. About 45 minutes later they called our number. The man at the window took my passport, took my fingerprints and asked for my birth certificate and police clearance plus copies. Since my police clearance said "no live trace", he asked for documents showing exactly what was on my record. I handed him my subject access form, and he said "It is just a 'drunk & disorderly' then?", to which I replied "Yes, just a caution". He was satified with that, and handed the subject acces form back to me along with my X-rays from my medical and told me to carry that with me when entering the US. He then asked me to pay for my visa at another window. After handing him back the receipt, I signed 2 of my DS forms and he gave me a courier form to fill out and asked me to have a seat and wait for my number to be called.
About 30 minutes later, we were called to another window where a nice American lady greeted us and made me take an oath promising to tell the truth. She checked my fingerprints before that, and then proceeded to ask me how and when we met, and how our relationship had progressed from then (when we had met in person, how many times & how often we had visited each other..). She asked about my caution (I told her I was attacked and retalliated out of self-defence), asked about our wedding plans and date, our engagement, and asked my fiance about his job (what he does, how much he earns, how long he has worked there...). She asked where I stayed when I was visiting him, asked him if he stil lives there, and if that is where we planned on living after I arrive in the US. She then asked me more about my caution (if the other party was arrested also), she also asked if I had ever been in any trouble with the law anywhere else at any other time during my life, and if I had ever had trouble entering the US. She then asked when I was planning on entering the US, and advised me that I cannot enter the US on the visa waiver program in-between now and using my visa to enter (cluing us in that we were approved).
She then showed me an envelope and said that I will get that along with my visa and passport, and not to open the seal and take it with me to hand to the US at the point of entry. She said that if it was unsealed, they might not let me enter. She said I was approved for my visa and to take the form to the courier to pay for the service to send me my visa.
We thanked her and walked off hand-in-hand, smiling and very relieved that it was over! Then we went to the same tea room down the street again for our celebration breakfast lol  |
