I decided to have my medical before the interview. The medical I had on August 26th and everything went well. I had my medical in Hamburg and had to pay 125€ which I think is cheaper than in Frankfurt.
On September 2nd at 7.30am was my interview. I arrived at the embassy at 6.45am which proved to be a good idea. Outside the consulate is the previously mentioned officer who asks you to not bring any electronics or hairspray etc. into the consulate. Also no washing machines or playstations and so on...He was definitely the nicest person there. Another officer, this time German asked us to show him our passport and the reciept that we had paid the visa fee. Then one by one we went to a little window, where I had to say my name showed my passport and then got a number. My number was W603.
Had I been there at 7.30 am who knows what my number had been. Through the check in and then into the big waiting hall where I sat down at the very end of the hall in the section for immigration visas.
First time my number got called I had to go to window 23. The lady was very friendly and spoke German. She asked for the reciept that I had paid the visa fee, my passport and a picture. She asked me if I had stamps yet. I did. I had called to consulate before my interview and I was told to bring 4,25€ in stamps that way I didn't have to buy them at the consulate. You can buy stamps there, in case you didn't bring any. Then the lady gave me a blue page which told me how to sort my documents. There is also a copy machine in the hall. It is 50 cents per copy. They sure know how to make money 
Then sitting and waiting. I believe at least 30 minutes passed, then my number showed up again on the display. This time I had to go to window nuber 18.
There a guy was waiting for me. It wasn't that he wasn't nice, but he also wasn't the friendly lady from the first window. He had this routine about asking me for documents telling me about what I had to do once I was married and so on. Never really smiled or showed any other emotions, if you know what I mean. At first he showed me the envelope that would be sent to me. I had to put my stamps on it and write my German address on it. He told me to open it very carefully, when I would get it because inside would be the envelope which is opened at port of entry besides my passport. If that evelope which has all the douments in it is opened before, I would have to come back to the consulate.
I handed him my birth certificate (plus copy), criminal record and the Affidavit of Support. Then he told me to sit down and wait till I would get called by the Consul for the interview.
I sat and waited staring at the display which btw makes a sound everytime a new number shows up. Still hear that sound in my ear today 
Suddenly at about 9am this woman behind window 17 starts waving at me, giving me signs to come over. I thought this must be the interview now.
I read the latest reviews of the Frankfurt consulate and are pretty sure I had a different lady in my interview than described in the other reviews.
I was not asked what language I would prefer.The interview was in English, which was totally fine with me. First I had to do the finger prints. And then the questioning started.
Here is what I was asked:
Consul: What is your complete name?
Me: Fra.. Spre..
C: when is your birthday?
Me: jan. 17th 1983
C: who filed the petion for you?
Me: (my fiance's name)
C: And who is that?
Me: My fiance.
C: when did you guys meet?
Me: in 2000
C: how did you guys meet?
Me: (telling her how)
C: when did you get engaged?
Me: beginning of 2009
C: when are you planning on getting married?
Me: mid october, adding when my parents will be there.
(here is where you see it is not good to add information that wasn't asked for)
C: Have your parents been to the us before?
Me: yes. twice
C: have the families met.
Me: Yes
C: Where does your fiance's family live
Me: (telling her)
C: Where will you live?
Me: with my fiance
C: in a house or appartmen?
Me. (telling her)
C: how many people will live there?
Me: just the two of us and a dog (trying to get her to smile, didn't work out so well)
C: What does your fiance work?
Me: telling her what he used to do and that he is currently unemployed which she knew from the affidavit of support.
C: when did he loose his job?
Me: (telling her)
C: Who is M...(the co-sponsor)
Me: (telling her)
C: what is his dad's name?
Me: (telling her)
C:What will you do to support yourself financially?
Me: studied architecture and will apply for jobs?
C: so you haven't applied yet?
Me: No
C: Ok. it seems like everything is ok. If we have another question or need something else from you, we will call you. If we don't have any other questions, we will send out your visa in 3-4 days.
I asked her if we are all set and she said yes.
I guess, I have wait until I have the visa to be absolutely sure that I got it.
All in all it was a positive experience in Frankfurt. Do not know how I would have felt not speaking english as good as I do. Her questions were asked very fast and I felt a little bit like I was on some trial, because I had commited a crime. There is nothing to worry about though, just have your documents complete, stay calm, be nice and be prepared to answer their questions. I gave 4 out of 5 stars, because I would have like a little smile here and there. |
