Not much trouble at the POE. We had to wait with other Visa holders(there was another K1 from the Phillipines with us) and the officer who handled our paperwork seemed new to the K1. However, he was professional and helpful. The only harrasment we experienced was having all my senbei insepected by the Customs people, and having my luggage get stuck on the conveyor belt to the baggage claim. All-in-all, a good experience. |

We got to the USCIS center early, and were able to have our interview done 15 minutes earlier. The interviewer was a very nice woman whose husband was in the Navy, and has lived in Okinawa before, so she knew a little Japanese. She asked questions about our wedding(who came, where was it, religious or civil, etc...)and we showed her our photos. She asked questions about our apartment, whether or not I spoke Japanese, and why Yumi hasn't gotten her WA State Driver's License yet. After some conversation, she asked for any evidence of joint ownership. We gave her copies of our apartment lease, joint bank account, and documents from my life insurance and pension at my job listing her as the beneficiary. After that, she told us that she is recommending Yumi for approval, and explained to us about what we would have to do in the future to lift conditions. She said Congratulations and that was it! The interview lasted for less than half an hour. |

Embassy Review : |
Arrived at the Embassy before 8:30 and got to go in early. We checked in with the interview comfirmation email we got from the embassy, and were given a see-through plastic envelope with instructions on what order to put the forms and given a number. After we got our stuff in order, we waited for about 15-20 minutes before our number was called. The man checked our forms and made sure everything was in order. He was very pleasant and we joked with him a little as he checked our documents. After that, we sat down for another 10-15 minutes until our number was called again for Yumi's fingerprints. After this, another round of 10-15 minutes until we were called for our interview. The interviewer was a man and asked us if we wanted the interview in English or Japanese. We opted for English, but at times, he spoke very good Japanese for Yumi. We prepared for the questions about family, but got questions about where we will live and what are our plans are after going to Seattle instead. After about 5 minutes he told us that we were approved, and that we would receive the visa in a week. I believe we got out of there just a little after 9:30, so it just took us over an hour. Overall, I think the embassy was good, and the staff was very helpful and kind. The interview was the only nerve-wracking part, but when Yumi did not understand the question in English, the interview asked again in Japanese. Still, I would recommend that if the petitioner is able to attend the interview, to do so. |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
