They were very nice, although they have "so few of these types of visas" that everyone had to watch the one guy do it. It took a bit longer because of it. They also mixed up the Petition expiry date with the visa expiry date, so they thought that the 19th was when my visa expired, which was quite stressful. We drove over with a U-Haul truck which they didn't really examine and they didn't even look in the cab because I had my dog with me who barked at them and scared them..lol. They didn't even ask if he had his shots or license.
- ARRGHH!!! - When I finally went to apply for my social security card... turns out, the border / immigration ppl did NOT give me an I-94 - so no SSN for me.. now I have more delays and paperwork to do, through no fault of my own!! HOW FRUSTRATING!!! |

We sent off our AOS paperwork to Chicago as instructed, then received notice for biometrics (fingerprints only). Shortly after that we received a RFE to send all the info we just sent to Chicago to be sent to MO this time.. /sigh
At the interview we were not separated, only asked 2 basic questions, when and where did we get married, do we have any recipts with both our names on it. Then we are told I need another medical, and my long form birth certificate and I have 30 days to get it done. Problem is, the list of their selected Civil surgeons, only 2 say they still do the immigration medicals. One is on holiday for 2 weeks and they cant even set a price, the second has a set fee, but, the next closest appointment is one month away.
We also have 90 days to sumbit another form and mail in all the recipts with both our names on them. |

We sent off the paperwork and request to the Chicago office, as instructed, then a month later, we recieve an RFE for everything we sent already to IL, and a request for the medical envelope, which OBVIOUSLY we do not have, to be sent to Lee's summit, MO. So we re do everything, and send it off to MO.
Biometrics date was 2009-12-04. |

I will try to make this as short as possible as I'm sure most people don't read an overly lengthy review.
To start off with my appointment was scheduled for 9:30am and being a very punctual person, I was rather upset that it basically meant nothing at all to have a time set. I was at the consulate at 8:00am, there were noisy protesters outside the consulate shouting and yelling while we were all waiting in line trying to be patient. Once we were let in, 2 at a time, and went through the security check point, we went down stairs to an elevator to get to the 19th floor and the waiting began. My number was not called until after 11:30, after which I was called to a small, booth if you can even call it that, where I was asked for the receipt for the $131 USD for the interview, a copy of a few forms, electronic finger prints were taken and my passport. Then I was sent outside again to the waiting room for .. guess what... more waiting.. then about an hour later, I was called into a tiny room, more like a closet, with a woman sitting behind what I can imagine is bullet proof glass and she again took electronic finger prints, the large Xpress post envelope and then sat there typing, not really saying anything, then the very few questions she asked me were:
"Why did you only meet him once in the 2 years that you have known him? was it financial?" (to which I replied yes). She asked if I "had any pictures of him and I together" and I explained that it was just him and I alone but I did have two pictures of him and I in the exact same spot which was pretty much the same thing and explained the rest were online where friends and family could see them. She asked "was I ready to get married to him." Asked "if we had discussed any marriage plans yet", and "if I knew that we had to get married in 90 days of getting to the states", all the while she is typing in the computer, then she hands me a sheet of paper and said here is a list of what you have to do once you arrive in the states and your papers will be mailed to you and you should have them by next week. Overall, I feel that it was very much an anti-climax to the whole process and that I didn't really need to even be there. But I am glad that it is all over and I will be seeing my sweetheart again very soon and this time for Good ! |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
