Crossed at Sweetgrass, Montana via car. There was no harassment from the US border folks.....I was the hassle! I got arrested as there was an arrest warrent for a littering ticket I got a few months before we left. They sent me back to Canada, an RCMP officer came to the border, made me sign a promise to appear and then I went back to the US side and they let me in. They could have canceled my visa but the didn't. They were sorry for having to deny me entry for such a lame thing. |

First off for the IR1/CR1 bring the following, even if not instructed to:
1 Canada Post prepaid envelope (NATIONAL) Size 12" x 15"
2 Passport Pictures Size 2" x 2"
Both people I dealt with at the consulate were awesome. They were happy, approachable etc.
#1. Name called. Go to window - review paper work - make necessary corrections - provide envelope, passport pictures, letter from medical. Thy didn't want the xray but you do have to bring it. (He told me the xray is valid for 10 years). Sit down again.
#2. Name called. Go to window - take fingerprints. Sit down again.
#3. Name called. Go to interview room. Swear oath to tell the truth.
Questions:
1. When and how did you meet?
2. When and how did you meet in person?
3. Who proposed to whom?
4. When and how did he propose?
5. Where is he now?
6. How many children do you have?
7. Is this the first marriage for you?
8. Is this the first marriage for him?
9. What does he do for a living? What does that mean?
10. Where does he work?
11. Who is cosponser?
12. Why do you have a co-sponsor?
13. What does the co-sponsor do for work?
14. Are you able to leave the country with your child?
(Note: my child has dual from another American, my husband was not a sponsor)
15. Do you have your custody papers?
16. What do you do for work?
17. Where do you work?
18. Ever have any trouble crossing the border?
19. Do you have copies of your child's birth certs and passport?
20. Do you have copies of your husbands passport?
21. When does your husband plan to return to the US?
22. Where will you live when you are there?
Thank you - based on the evidence presented I will authorize you for a visa.
Welcome to the United States of Amercia.
Handed me a welcome letter, told me what to expect at the border (bring passport, package they will send me, xray, custody papers). Told me don't cross the border, go for coffee, and then go back home. Take all your belongings, to move permanately. (Good advice since we were planning the prior just to get the ball rolling). Asked me if I had other questions. No...ok. Bye.
A very pleasurable expereince. I was never intimidated or made to feel uncomfortable.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
