Comments : She had to go to secondary questioning after going through the initial immigration checkpoint and gathering her luggage. She was questioned by 2 additional agents. She said the agent at the first checkpoint was friendly and very brief. One of the agents in secondary questioning was courteous and to the point, but she said the second agent asked a lot of questions and was kind of rude. He also raised an eyebrow at our age difference (10+ years) but she eventually got through. Total time from touchdown to exiting immigration/customs was approximatley 1 1/2 hours so not too bad.

Consulate Review: Ethiopia
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 21, 2009
Embassy Review : The process went pretty smoothly, with one minor hitch. My fiancee's appointment was scheduled for Thursday, April 16. We had our paperwork well in order, however, we had not included info on wedding plans (e.g. reservations for church, reception hall, etc.), and the CO wanted to see this information. She was given another appointment time on Monday, April 21 to bring the information to the embassy. I sent what information I had (letter from minister agreeing to marry us and copy of license to practice in our state, sample wedding invitation) with a cover letter from me explaining plans to date. The info was accepted and visa issued the next day on April 22. For the interview, we had included copies of phone bills, a few emails, and a lot of pictures of us together and with her family. This type of information, including documentation of wedding plans, seems to be necessary, in addition to all of the forms, etc.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
