Comments : I129F received by Nebraska Service Center August 22, 2005. October received notification documentation approved September 30th. I consider this "a very timely manner". Now waiting for hard copy of approval and instructions as to where to go from here. Thank You Service Center. You have to remember Deysi is Nicaragaun and her daughter is Costa Rican. They have resided in Costa Rica for three years so thats the Consulate we were dealing with. Went to Costa Rica on Oct. 25th to see my fiance. I called the US Embassy on th 26th and they told me they had not received the packet from the NVC wait one week and give them a call. Before that time period was up they called and informed Deysi they had the packet I had submitted in the states and invited us to pick up the Packet 3 the following day. We picked up that packet on Nov. 11th and like a scavenger hunt it was off to fill the requirements. Doctors, Police and dcoument bureau this took the most time and was the most frustrating. I can tell you the national pastime in Costa Rica has got to be standing in line at their governmental offices. When all requirements were fulfilled I called the Embassy Nov. 17th and told them my departure date for the states was Nov. 24th and was wondering if I needed to be there for the interview and if so if we could get in before then. They were so very cordial and told me to come in the 19th at noon and we could get the interview done. When we arrived there was two more forms she had to complete and then we went back to the window and we had two forms which weren't current enough in the packet. She was told to get those updated and return them the following tuesday and the Visa would be issued wednesdy. I told the gentleman that we were suppose to do the interview that day because I was leaving the following tuesday. He ask me if I filed the papers in the U.S. I answered yes. He ask me how long I had known Deyis I said 3 years and he said all the paperwork is in order and when she brings in those two document that need updating she can pick up her visa the next day. Well once again the Bureau of Documents in San Jose couldn't possibly process anything that fast so she had to make 2 separate trips to get two documents one attesting to the fact she was not married and returned them to the embassy on the 29th of Nov. Yesterday was the 30th of Nov. and she has visa in hand. I'd like to thank all involved for the overwhelming cooperation I have received start to finish. All U.S. Govermental offices and the employees at the U.S. Embassy in Costa RIca have gone out of their way to handle this matter in a truly timely and professional manner.

Comments : As you can see my first filing date was March the 3rd with the packet being recieved in Chicago on the 5th of March. The packet was refused and return March 9th stating I had sent the wrong amount on my money order. Turns out I had not filled a I-485 form for my 3 year old stepdaughter who arrived with my wife. Turns out the money was a $215.00 overpayment which was what the fee for submitting a I-485 for a child under 15 years old. I went back to my local CIS office and showed the information officer there the returned packet. He provided me with additional I-485 forms new biography forms which have yet been printed in carbon form so I had to redo these in four parts and at least one other form had been replaced in the last 2 weeks and those also had to be refiled. I completed the packet again and resubmitted by mail on March 14th. The Chicago office recieved the packet again March 17th so at this point I am waiting and hoping.

I found a state goverment agency here in Boise that offers adjustment classes for refugees. In as much as Deysi is not a refugee we went in and checked to find out what it would cost to enroll her in the classes 3 hours per day 5 days a week with child care while in school. She learns english with instructor 2 hours and 1 hour on computer. The cost is $10. per week so she's signed up and doing very nicely as an intermedate. My hats off to the instructors and staff at the school. They are so congenial and both my wife and baby can hardly wait for the next day for school. If anyone has a foreign fiance here and they don't speak very good english I highly recommend they check into classes in your area that will help the loved on tho adjust and gain confidence in handling "the American Way".

I have now had the packet returned to me twice. Each time it indicated that I had not sent the proper amount of money. Well it turns out the first time I sent it in I failed to send in an application for our daughter Feysy who I thought followed on the heels of her mother and is 3 years old. Obviously she cannot fill out the paperwork and has not established a signature at the age of 3 so the explanation once again left everything to be desired. All the letters of denial indicated was that the wrong amount of money had been sent in for my wifes I-485, my daughters I-485 under age 14, my wife fingerprinting and my wifes fees for permission to work. I visited the local office and they informed me the biography forms had been changed in the past 2 week and I needed to refile those forms in 4 parts and they had printed carbonless forms as of yet so in addition to my daughters I-485 I had to fill out 4 of those forms again. I had done that for the fiancee visa prior so now the haf 8 copies seeem s like a waste of good trees. I resubmitted. And a week and a half later I got back that revisied packet with the same denial for incorrect funds. So I again checked with the Boise office and in looking at the daughters fee in had gone up $10.00 in the last week something the Boise office was totally unaware of and was still diseminating a price list with the fee for $10. less. Each time we send these back and forth it costs $4.00 so it sort of seems like one government agency trying to help another one stay in business. If they would give you an explanation as to what is needed each time they act on a file rather than just rush to the rejection stamp and shove it back at you with a very poor explanation it would certainly speed things along. This group is certainly a lot harder to work with than the visa group was. I finally recieved the reciepts back for the I-485 for Deysi and the reciept for the I-765 both dated notice date April 3. We are now waiting patiently for Deysi's Biomerics Appt. date as that is what the NOA letter indicates is the next step.

Monday April the 10th recieved ASC Appointment Notice for Deysi\'s Biometrics Appt. on April 17th 2006, at the Boise ID. USICS Office. On Thursday April 18th I recieved ASc Appointment notice for Feysi's Photos on April 18th at the Tucson AZ. USCIS Service Center. I called the 800 number and the a lady there told me to bring that form along to the appointment Deysi has monday in Boise and see if Feysy can't get her photo taken there. It's hard to understand how they can split the mother and daughters paper work and send one to Boise and the other to Tucson and then mail the paperwork to Boise.

Monday April 17th Deysi and Feysi both went to the Boise CIS office and the young man there fingerprinted Deysi and took pictures of both for the I-485's and Deysi's EAD biometrics were handled. Again the waiting game goes on. Boise office handled things very professionally and handled Feysi's Tucson paperwork very well.

Today we had our interview for adjustment of immigrant status to a probational green card. Deysi and I had heard so many horror stories that of course we had some grounds for our concern. The morning started off by getting up 50 minutes later then we had planned giving us 40 minutes to bathe, dress and drive across town to our 8:30 AM appointment. We made it at 8:29 AM.

The interview was conducted by a real nice young man who really did nothing more than swear us in, check identification and ask a few pertinent questions like name and address. Basically he shuffled paperwork, condensed files and answered our questions. He gave us recommendations for our final round of paperwork and interview in July of 2008. He just handled the whole thing with the three of us in the room in a truly professional manner. It was just about the easiest part of the whole process.

At the end of the interview he informed us that the probational green cards would be in the mail and we should expect to receive them within three weeks. He told us Deysi and Feysy can travel abroad merely using these probationary cards and when we re-enter the country just go directly through American custom as citizens.

Other items discussed were dates for refiling the lifting of conditions from probational green card. I was of the impression needed to file that 90 days prior to your 2nd wedding anniversary. I was told that need to be files 90 days prior to the expiration of the probational card. And if you did not receive the permanent green card by the expiration date your probationary card and a copy of the reciept that appliction had been recieved will work until you recieve your card. He told us when applying for conditions to be lifted only one form and one fee for Deysi (as mother of juvenile child)is necessary. Just write Feysy's (child) on the back of form. He said if all paperwork is in order more than likely no interview will be necessary. This whole interview process was so well handled. I feel fortunate I live in Boise Idaho and my local office operates in such a professional manner.

Comments : This seemed to move reasonably smoothly with no interview. We filed out forms and submitted with proper payment. Shortly thereafter we were given a biometrics appointment which we attended. During the process and prior to the Sept. 1st expiration of the temporary Deysi and Feysy were issued a one year extension letter and on the 25th of November 2008 the permanent "Green Card" with a 10 expiration date arrived with no interview necessary. Smooth and non-invasive. Thanks to all. Next we will go for my little girl Feysy's Certificate of Citizenship and my wife Deysi's naturalization filings, studies and finally and ultimately her citizenship.

Comments : Now it's time to finish up the process by Filing the N-400 and getting Deysi her citizenship. Sent the forms in on November 2nd. It took two attempts at the test to get the desired results. The test at is now a series of ten questions of which you need to correctly answer in english to the examiners satisfaction. The first time Deysi fell a little short on the Q&A but having learned the format her second attempt resulted in a score of 9.5 correct out of ten. the examiner congradulated Deysi and gave her a date for thking the oath. The ceremony here at the Boise office was very informative, professionaly administered and a thing to be rembered for the rest of her life. She is so proud of her new citizenship. Thank you so much to Visa Journey for your help. It probably could have been accomplished without you, but I certainly wouldn't have wanted to try. This will conclude our Visa and Citizenship Journey. Thanks for everything.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
