Comments : We went through Portal, and found most of the officers didn't have a clue how to process a visa. Actually the first guy was going to let me drive through after seeing my visa in my passport. I told him we had paperwork we had to do etc. So he then asked us to park and go in. We processed the pets and imported my van with no issue. They just didn't really know how to process the K3 / K4 visa. Hopefully they did is all right!

03/31/09 - Just a quick update. The paperwork they did to import my van was wrong. We had to drive accross Houston to get a HS-7 form. Make sure the POE gives you this if you drive!
10/01/10 - Another update. When we crossed the border in 2009 - they wrote an A# on both my I-94 and my daughters. They were identical. When we went for our Biometrics they asked for my daughters A#. I told them she has never had one issued. He said the one in her passport would work. That's when I mentioned it was the same as mine. They then had to track down my daughter's A#. Which took a while. North Portal doesn't seem to know how to process K3/K4 visa's at all.

Consulate Review: Vancouver, Canada
Review Topic: K3 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : January 21, 2009
Embassy Review : I was surprised at how quickly and easily the process was through Vancouver. We arrived at the consulate early (they of course sent us away for 15 minutes). We arrived again at the scheduled time and were put through security. There are two sets so don't put stuff back in your pockets just carry them with you until through the second set.

We waited until called to window #3. We then handed in all the paperwork requested on our checklist. We had a seat again and waited to be called for the interview. Once called to the window we were asked general questions about how we met. Where we were married. Where we both worked. She verified my husbands income. Asked my daughter a couple of questions and asked her to sit down. Then asked me about her birth father (who has never been in the picture and is not listed on her birth certificate). She then told me to go get our medicals and we left.
We managed to get our medicals after some hassle. I ran back into the consulate with nothing in my pockets. Handed it over at window #2 and was told everything looked good and that we were to come back tomorrow to pick up our visa's.
The next day the consulate called to re-check the information about my daughter's birth father. I again explained that he was not listed on her birth certificate and had no rights to her. They said thank you and to be there at 2:00. I arrived at 2:00 and we picked up our k3 & k4 visa's.

All and all it was a good process - just nerve wracking!
Rating : Very Good

Embassy Review : We went for our Interview on November 15th. I had everything they requested and then some. The lady who interviewed us asked us to state our full names, birth dates, addresses and a few other questions. She then asked the same of my daughter. Then she questioned me a bit on my daughter's father (who is not listed on her birth certificate and is not in her life). She even insisted she needed his name. She then stated that our medical was incomplete but couldn't tell us why and wanted to contact the civil surgeon. We were left with the impression that if she had her question answered everything would be fine. We received a RFE last week and we had the civil surgeon then fix the vaccine part of the I693. The civil surgeon indicated that the particular officer we had sends everyone back to her. So now we wait again. I wish they had better communication. The interview was fine but now we wait nervously!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
