Embassy Review : |
Arrived at the Embassy at one o'clock precisely, as per instructions on the packet 4 letter. Through the gate security where they x-rayed my bag and took my mobile phone, and on into the Embassy itself where the helpful security asked what I was there for and got me a number from the ticket machine.
It was a pretty quiet day for visa applications - there were two people ahead of me. One was there as he had won a Green Card lottery and another who was also in for their K-1 interview. There were a few problems with the number calling machines but I was eventually called to the window after about half an hour where my documents were checked, and then on to the cashier window to pay my visa fee. It was then back to the waiting area where I chatted with my fellow applicants. After about another 40 minutes of waiting one of them was called up, but returned after a couple of minutes - they had missed a signature. Then my name was called. Thinking that I too had neglected to sign or initial a form I asked one of them to look after my evidence folder. The guy at the window was friendly and pleasant. He asked me to swear I would be telling the truth, took my fingerprints, asked me some questions about my current employment and if I would be moving with the company I was working for, and some questions about my trips to the US. He then asked me a couple of questions about my relationship. That was it. I was approved!! All I had to do was take a seat and they would prepare my passport with the visa! I was stunned. I was expecting to be questioned to the nth degree and having to use all of my emails, phone records, chat logs and photos to prove my bone fide relationship. They didn't ask for a single thing.
I was called back up about 10 minutes after my interview to be told that they wouldn't be able to give me my visa that day, and that I needed an envelope with around €7 of stamps on it. I popped out of the embassy, got the required stamps and envelopes and returned it to them.
The whole thing took me just over an hour and a half, and would have been quicker if I had an envelope with me.
The experience was not at all like I imagined. I was expecting stern faces and probing questions, but all of the Embassy staff were very polite and friendly, the security staff helpful and the fellow applicants I met there helped put me at ease that I was not alone in my concern for forgetting something.
Make sure that you are well prepared with your documents - they seem to appreciate that. |

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
