Consulate Review: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 4, 2024
Embassy Review : Timeline of my case at the consulate:

DQ (Documentarily Qualified): August 1, 2024
Expedite request due to medical reasons submitted: August 2, 2024
Expedite approved by Rio de Janeiro consulate: August 6, 2024
Access to the website for interview scheduling: August 7, 2024
Interview scheduled by my advisory for: September 23, 2024
Expedite request for an earlier date due to medical reasons: August 11, 2024
Interview rescheduled to: August 28, 2024 (originally scheduled for 9:00 a.m., but I was only attended at 11:30 a.m.)
The consular officer asked me four questions, was very friendly, wished me a safe trip, and handed me the white paper indicating I was approved.
On August 28, my case entered "administrative processing," which is a standard procedure for visa issuance when no further evidence or 221(g) is requested.
After a weekend and a holiday, the case remained in administrative processing for six days.
On September 3, my case status changed to "issued," meaning my visa has been approved and will be ready for pickup at the CASV in a few days. Since I live in Rio de Janeiro, it’s more convenient for me to collect it there.
I will be immigrating within the next few days as soon as I receive my passport.
My process was handled by Visa Elite, with Lu Hall (CEO) overseeing my case.
Rating : Very Good

Hi Joe and Alice, we are also filing from USA/Brazil. My wife is in Brazil. I see you were recently approved for expedited request? Congratulations first of all! That is awesome. If you don't mind, what was the reasoning you guys used to expedite that USCIS approved? Thank you! Troy

Hi Troy, Of course, our expedite was approved based on my pregnancy. Everyone told me this wouldn’t help, but it did. All the proof I sent was about my pregnancy. My husband just wrote the letter as an American having to deal with the insecurities of his wife being abroad and pregnant, including having to figure out the baby's birth in both countries if my visa was approved too late. My husband is from Vermont, and by coincidence, my case was attached to the Vermont Service Center. We asked for our senator's help, and they sent the expedite with their flag. So, if you have a good reason for an expedite, try! Even if some people tell you not to, do it. wish you guys all the best!

Hi Alice and Joe, that makes perfect sense. Congratulations, and we are happy for you. I am glad you get to be together during birth of your baby! Amem! We hope you guys the best and hopefully we will be on our journey soon too. Will look more into expediting. Thanks again and excited for you guys! -Troy

Hi Alice and Joe, Congrats! Just wanted to update you, we had our I-130 approved and waiting to get DQ papers with NVC. I have a question. When they sent your papers to the embassy in Rio, how does the scheduling for interview work? Do they pick a date for you first or and how do you pick a date? As, I know you expedited your request, but did they give you a original date (as I saw you put on your timeline) or was that part of the expedited request also? Thanks for your help and God bless you too! Hopefully my wife is on her way over soon! Thanks! -Troy

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
