Comments : 2024-05-20 - Expedite request submitted online to Embassy due to expiration date of I-797 of 2024-07-04
2024-05-22 - Despite being advised by Embassy to file for expedite request, request was denied. Talk to an attorney, they said that it is common for the I-797 to expire before the interview and that they will(should) extend it.

Comments : After reading reviews we wanted to use Houston. First thing first, we landed in Houston at 5:24am. My fiancée followed me through the line for US Citizen check in for Passport control. Then he asked me who she was and I told her and he asked her politely to step up. Asked a few questions, city of destination, type of Visa and if she knew the number of days before it expired. He was very kind. Then he called over another officer to escort us both away. When we got to the interview center, which is to the right of Passport Control lines, he told me to walk straight ahead and wait to the right UPSTAIRS. My fiancée entered the room. The had her passport already but then asked for the envelope that came with her VISA. After reviewing that, she was taken into a room and asked 1 question about address where we would be living in the US. He wished her the best and she was allowed to leave the interview center the same way she went in unaccompanied. It was literally 5 minutes from entry to interview room to exit. We went downstairs together to retrieve our checked luggage together and took it to the connecting flight baggage drop off, together! Everyone with CBP was kind and extremely professional. HIGHLY recommend Houston as the POE.

Medical Exam Labs and Embassy Package - Highly recommend Dr. Jairo H. Roa’s office. Very efficient, very professional, very patient friendly, comfortable environment.

ASC - Location for biometrics are in the courtyard between G4 and G5. Very organized and we were in and out in ~20 minutes.

It has been said a few times but want to stress…..IF YOU ARE DIVORCED OR A WIDOW OR WIDOWER YOU MUST BRING ORIGINAL PRINTED(HARD COPY)DIVORCE DECREES OR DEATH CERTIFICATE. THEY WANT TO FEEL THE RAISED SEAL AND FEEL THE PAPER. Does not matter if your are Colombian(Beneficiary) or American(Sponsor). Same thing about the Colombian Birth Certificate, must be the original, stamped by the notary and translated. We had the birth Certificate, had it translated, but it did not have the seal and thus was rejected.

General observation was if you were able to get the window before 11-11:30am after the initial intake, most people were given yellow slips. Interviews before that were granted VISAs quickly. We met a family that had been trying for 3 years and each time they came back, it was something new that was asked for.

I(sponsor) was able to accompany my fiancée all the way through the Embassy. I encourage every couple to do this together, it is an experience that brings you closer and makes the waiting much easier being together. There is a small cafe in the waiting area and amble bathrooms. Before going in, while waiting across the street, the folks running the businesses are pushing umbrellas and ponchos saying it will be a long wet wait as rain sprinkles were present the day we went. However once you are in what someone else called the amphitheater of waiting, it is a covered open air area but on cooler days, the wind going in and out seems harsher than standing outside.

DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT USING A CELL PHONE or Samsung or Apple Watch; you could lose your approval or administrative review status, this includes trying to use it in the bathroom. I say one person and fiancée get escorted out after being warned twice, be careful!

Interview
Part 1 intake - took 2 years of my W2’s, medical packet, I-134, Translated Police Record
Part 2 Interview - Asked the following questions:
- when did you meet
- when was first time met face to face
- how many times has sponsor come to see fiancée
- has fiancée ever been to the USA
- wedding plans made and where(State is fine, City and State is fine)
- address where residing in USA
- how many times has sponsor been married

Overall the officer was nice, greeted me(petitioner warmly and kindly in English). But the yellow form was sitting on the desk under our file. Then officer grabbed the yellow form explaining that the VISA was approved but need the hard copies of divorce decrees, death certificate of late spouse and birth certificate of fiancée. They kept the Colombian passport stating that once the required documents are delivered per their instructions, courier only, the Colombian Passport with K1 Visa would be delivered in 1 week after receipt. ALL required documents MUST be submitted in a single submission. I am going to get my docs from the USA, courier to my fiancée, then she will add her docs and send to be adjudicated.

Is frustrating to come all this way just for them to impose a “requirement” that is not previously clearly disclosed. Had known in advance, we could have gotten our approval at that time.

Rating : Moderate

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
