We had out AOS interview on 09/08/08. Our interview was scheduled for 11 am. We arrived at 10.45am, checked in on the second floor. We told the lady at the check in desk thet we were waiting for our attorney and she instructed us to have a seat until our attorney arrived. Our attorney arrived 10 mins later and she handed in our interview notice. We were called for our interview at 11.05 by our interviewer. She brought us to her office and proceeded to swear us in and asked our attorney for her credentials. There was another lady in the room observing the interview, maybe a trainee but we weren't sure.
To start with the officer asked for our ids and our original birthcerts etc. Then she took out our file, which contained all the forms and applications we had sent in. She started with my wife, going through her G-325A asking her basic questions - full name, dob, parents' names, addresses etc. (Make sure to read over all the forms that you sent in before interview. Catherine, my wife, couldn't remember the correct address of the place she lived in last and the officer started to give her a bit of a hard time about it. Eventually the officer moved on to the next previous address on the list and Cat answered everything else fine).
Then the officer asked me a series of similar questions. She asked how many times I have enetered the US, where and on what type of visa. The first time I enetered was with my old passport and she wanted to see it. (So make sure you bring all previous passports used to enter the US). After that she asked us about our relationship, how we met, when we started to go out, if wee've met each other's families, if Cat had been to Ireland, basically a history of our relationship and about our marriage.
Next she wanted to see additional documents from our Affadavit of Support sponsor - most recent tax returns, w2's, paystubs etc.
Finally she wanted to see what additional evidence we brought to show that we were in a bona fide realtionship. We gave her a stack of documents e.g. joint bills, joint bank statemnets etc. She also asked to see photos so we showed the photo album we brought and she took a couple of photos to put in our file.
The interview lasted for about 35 mins and really went as well as we could have hoped for. It was a really positive experience, by the end the officer was laughing and joking with us. At the end she said that there were a couple of more security checks that needed to be completed and that assuming they were ok that she was essentially approving us.
A little over a week later I had my greencard!!  |
