Consulate Review: Finland
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 30, 2008
Embassy Review : I had my appointment scheduled 9 am and when I got there they asked me to show my passport. For some reason they didn't have my name in their list and they started asking if I was sure it was the right day and what kind of visa I was applying for. I showed them the invitation and they took that and my passport and went inside and started calling somewhere. In about five minutes they came back and said it's all under control and called me in. After all the security controls I got into the room where many other people were waiting to be interviewed for various different visas. I gave them all the forms and evidence I had with me (though the man I was talking with didn't want any of the love letters I had with me, haha, he said that you probably don't wanna bother the consul with them and at least he doesn't.. hmph..) Then they took my finger prints and after waiting again for a couple of minutes I had the interview. It was in Finnish and in the same room where everyone else was waiting. The woman only asked a couple of questions (when did you meet, how many times has your fiance been to Finland, what does he do for living) and then she quickly glanced through all the papers. She didn't even look at the flight tickets and only saw some of the photos I had provided. Then she asked me to sign one of the papers and said my application is now approved and I can come back between three thirty and four to see if the visa is ready. She said it might not be because processing the finger prints may take some time or something. Anyway, the whole thing lasted about thirty minutes most of which was waiting.
When I came back five minutes before 4 pm I found out it wasn't ready yet and they told I'll get a call the next day to find out when I can pick it up. Luckily I live in Helsinki so the travelling to the consulate is not a problem for me but I could imagine this would comlicate thigs for some people. So the next day before noon they called me and said it's ready now and I can go pick it up any time, any day. That made me relieved since I had been a little worried they would give me a certain time that could collide with my working schedules. All in all, everything went pretty easily and fast and I'm just so happy to have the visa now!

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
