Consulate Review: Nigeria
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : October 25, 2023
Embassy Review : New interview date was given for April 5, 2023. He arrived early, and waited with other visa types. He was the only k1 that day. When it was his turn, the plump co with the white beard collected his documents and evidence and went through our evidence book, page by page with him, asking questions about everything he read and saw. Then the questions began. They were very detailed and invasive. There were many. He was with the guy for more than 20 minutes. When he was done being interrogated, the co handed him a 221g slip and kept his passport. Co told him we'd hear back in 2 to 3 weeks. After 1 week, he received an email to collect his passport. Then after another week, he received an email that our case was being sent back to uscis for recommendation of revocation. After months of calling, emailing, and talking to lawyers with no answers as to what that meant and what our next step should be, I went back to Nigeria and we got married. We are now pursuing the cr1. Finally, in August, I received a letter from uscis saying that since there was no visa issued in lagos, and our petition had expired, the uscis would take no further action on our case and we were free to file again. We still were not told and do not know why his k1 visa was denied. ?

Wow, 4 months at the NVC is a miracle, I pray mine is this fast, although I’m in CR1 category

It's about average for k1, but I wish you all the best with a fast reunion!

Hello, did you wait to hear from the embassy to receive the consulate? May I ask what was your process once you received your case#?

Is there 2 fees for the k1 visa? The 265$ and the 325$? How did you get your appt? Fid you schedule yourself or the consulate scheduled for you?

@moorek once we received oir case number, we filled out the ds160. We belong to many support groups on fb and whatsapp. You can search the group on fb by typing in k1 visa and your country.

@kcpaty, no there is one fee. It is $265. We waited for the appointments to be open. Also same thing, we joined a dates finder group that we all checked daily for appointment openings. Find your country on Facebook for support with all that.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
