Hi congrats on getting your interview date! My paperwork has just arrived at the consulate in Jakarta. Anything I can do before I receive packet 3 in email to make the process faster?

Thank you! And for sure! ..there's definitely something you can do to get a head start.
I am going to assume that you're using the DHL lookup trick and have confirmed that the Waybill (package containing your petition) has been delivered.
I am also going to assume that you already have information about your case number JAK***. In my case, I got my case number from NVC in a word/rtf attachment.
So what you can do is..
1. Schedule the medical exam. You can use that word/rtf attachment from NVC that has the case number & receipt number on it for the hospital.
2. Once you have the date of the medical exam, then proceed with scheduling your interview at least 2 weeks after the medical exam date.
There is no packet 3 or packet 4 per se. The Jakarta Embassy will email us once they receive the physical petition and basically only gives instructions on how to proceed. Below is the exact excerpt of the instructions..

In summary, you can definitely start scheduling medical exam dan interview date once you have the JAK*** case number information AND confirmed that your petition has been delivered to local (Jakarta) embassy.
PeterCrist on 2023-01-07 said:
To schedule your interview, first you need to fill out DS-160 and finish the application to get Confirmation Number. Url for DS-160 .. https://ceac.state.gov/genniv/

No, I don't know the DHL lookup trick? What is that? I checked our case number through the US immigration website and it says "ready". I assume when it says "ready" the consulate has received the case, no? So, I should be the one who arrange the interview date not the consulate?
K+M on 2023-01-07 said:
Oh yes, I have received the case number with JAK### from NVC in a word attachment with the email subject "the NVC sent your K1visa petition to the US embassy in Jakarta".

Thank you so much for all the information! Good luck on your interview.
PeterCrist on 2023-01-07 said:
And you're correct, we are the ones who schedule the interview ourselves. Embassy doesn't give us the dates.
PeterCrist on 2023-01-07 said:
Let me know if you still have questions. Another piece I've learned ..once you've paid the fee through Bank Niaga, you will need to wait at least 24 hrs for the system to verify your payment. In my case, I paid the fee 1/3/2023 11:43am. I went back to my application and enter the "Receipt Number" next day 1/4/2023 at 11:50am in order to be successful. Important note: the "Receipt Number" is "Your Virtual Account Number".
PeterCrist on 2023-01-07 said:
Thank you! Best of luck to you too and I hope your case goes smoothly!
K+M on 2023-01-11 said:
Hello, we have finally received an email from the embassy regarding all the details for the interview! :) Should I reply to the email as I see "packet 3 sent" section on VJ timeline? And I will pay the visa fee after filling DS-160, correct?
PeterCrist on 2023-01-11 said:
You can put something on packet 3 & 4 sections to your timeline, the date when you received the instructions. But I've seen people skipped and left them blank. So it's up to you. Perhaps different countries have their own procedures that are not the same as Indonesia. You are correct, you need to file DS-160 first, to get the Confirmation. Then schedule visa appointment. Follow the visa appointment process which will generate the Virtual Account Number that you use to pay the fee. Pay the fee and come back again to your visa appointment site and complete the scheduling.
K+M on 2023-01-11 said:
Ah so no need to reply to the embassy email ya. Thank you so much for all the info you've shared. Good luck on the interview!
PeterCrist on 2023-01-11 said:
Well, my first email received from Jakarta Embassy was an official notification that they had received the petition and asked to update the Beneficiary data like beneficiary's name, address, email, telephone number. So obviously I replied to that email. They then replied back and confirmed upon receiving the beneficiary updated information and let me know that they would email beneficiary for further information, and they did. So the email containing instructions was sent to beneficiary, we did not reply to that email.
PeterCrist on 2023-01-11 said:
When you pay for your visa, don't forget that you need to wait at least 24hrs for the system to recognize the payment. Then go back to your visa appointment and use your Virtual Account Number as the Receipt Number. Thank you and best of luck to you as well!

Congratulations on your visa approval!!!!! 🥳
PeterCrist on 2023-01-26 said:
Thanks so much @K+M! she had her interview last night (this morning, Jakarta time) and we're approved. :) Questions asked: how did you guys start talking, when and where did you meet, have you met in person, have both of you been married before, have you received the orange paper (domestic violence pamphlet) and do you understand what it is. That's it. Fairly quick and the interviewer was very friendly as my fiancee described it. Awaiting for further instruction to pick up passport and the sealed packet. Thanks again and good luck to you guys!!!

Congratulations on your wedding! I see you already applied for adjustment of status - any tips for filing? I see a lengthy checklist on the USCIS website and can't wait for the incoming headaches, but you seemed to be really prepared if you already filed!
PeterCrist on 2023-02-10 said:
We planned ahead and yeah ..we were rushing it haha.. The plan was to go to city clerk's office for marriage license after she landed. But we had to go the next day due to longer than expected wait time at Boston Logan. We had prepared all the documents and brought them along on our wedding day. Went straight to post office after getting the marriage certificate and the ceremony. My tips would be to file all the following documents together with your adjustment of status (AOS) application: I-485 (AOS), I-131 travel document (Advanced Parole) and I-765 employment authorization document (EAD). All in one packet. No fee for I-131 and I-765.
PeterCrist on 2023-02-10 said:
I missed the I-765 (EAD). So I'm waiting to get the I-485 receipt notice to be used for I-765 application that I file separately. Thank you very much for the well wishes, hope all is well with you guys!

Congratulations on your wedding! I got approved and just received my passport back. So excited! If you don't mind me asking, when your fiance received the visa package, how was the envelope, did it have a cut out on one of the corner? Mine is like that and I'm afraid they think I try to open the package.
PeterCrist on 2023-02-11 said:
@K+M, yes, she received the packet from RPX with the same cut out on a corner just like what you described. No issue with Custom Border Protection (CBP) officer at the airport whatsoever. Congratulations!

Hey man, long time no talk! Just saw you got your green card, congratulations to you and your wife! I noticed you got is wicked quick, that lifts our hopes up a bit, we just got our NOA1 for our AOS. Our service center is Boston, so we look at your timeline and are very optimistic. Any idea how it was so quick? The USCIS website says Boston takes 18.5 months. Also, did you have to do another medical check? We looked and say that if you come on a K1 visa, the medical check is valid up to a year before you apply, so we didn't do another one. Any pointers for anything would be greatly appreciated, and again, congrats to you both!

Hi there! I am not sure how we got it this fast to be honest with you. I think we're just lucky. There was no interview for us although I can confirm that some do go through interview process. But I believe getting approved without interview seems to be uncommon these days. Probably it's one of the initiatives to reduce backlog. I don't think we did anything special and everything is basically by the book and do just like the instructions tell us to do. We kind of a bit of a rush in terms of immigration stuff though. Like scheduling medical before getting email from local embassy (learning from you which we THANK YOU so much), getting marriage license next day right after she landed and to be married days later, sent AOS application right after our marriage ceremony on that same day too. We tried to do things as soon as possible. I prepared and sent AOS, EAD and AP applications together, all in one packet, sent it to the AOS filing address. You're right, we did not do additional medical check-up either upon filing. USCIS sent us invitation to create USCIS account online and that helps with tracking application status and getting the (pdf) receipts electronically faster in addition to the physical letters in the mail. Thank you for the well wishes and congrats to you both as well and hope it won't be long now for approval and the card to arrive for your case!

I should say ..But I believe getting approved without interview seems to be common these days.
Hubba&Bubba on 2023-06-15 said:
Hi congrats on the GC! So fast!
Can I asked if you sent it all in online digitally or on paper? :)
PeterCrist on 2023-06-15 said:
Hello @Hubba&Bubba, the travel document and EAD applications are to be filed together along with AOS in one packet. I sent it via snail mail (through mail/paper). As far as I know, AOS is not one of those applications we can file online currently. We received invitation letter from USCIS with online access code to create USCIS account on the web. I could see all of my applications (AOS, EAD & AP) using that one access code. Congrats on the progress of your case as well, hope it won't be long now for your AOS approval.

Hi, can you please confirm if at the interview they ask for the original i-134 with a wet signature or if just a copy of it is fine?
PeterCrist on 2023-10-05 said:
Mine was with pdf-generated signature, so she would just print the signed form out ('copy') from her place in Indonesia. Had no issue with it. Best of luck on your case and the upcoming interview!

Thank you so much!!!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
