Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: K1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : May 11, 2022
Embassy Review : I stayed at Novotel, which is a five-minute walk away from the consulate. My interview was at 8:45 am, and I arrived 25 minutes early.
There's no technology allowed, so I had to turn off my phone and leave it along with my watch in a locker. The staff was very nice. The person who gave me my number told me not to be nervous, which was really helpful.
I had to wait until close to 10 am to be called to submit my required documents. They asked for:
interview payment receipt
my birth certificate (original & photocopy) - there was a typo in my name for mine, so I also provided my Canadian Citizenship document (photocopy)
bio page of my passport (photocopy)
2 passport photos
I-134 (photocopy) and supporting documents (W2 for 2020 & 2021 and paystubs for Feb - Mar 2022)
police check (original)
The typo in my birth certificate is difficult to correct since the process in the Philippines makes it extremely difficult, so I was very happy they accepted my Canadian Citizenship as proof of the correct one. The officer gave me the domestic violence pamphlet to read as I wait to be called again for the interview.
My visa interview didn't come until 10 minutes to 11 am. The US immigration officer gave me the number slip as a souvenir 😆. He asked me the following questions:
Who petitioned for you?
How did you two meet?
What does he do for a living?
What do you do for a living?
Where does he reside in the states?
Have you ever been arrested or have a criminal record?
Did you read the domestic violence pamphlet?
The interview ended on a lighter note since I was able to joke with him that I have never been arrested and have never received any parking tickets to which the officer said he couldn't say the same.
My mind blanked out after that when the officer was telling me the process of when I will receive my visa through the mail and I had to ask again if I was approved. He smiled, telling me he was recommending me for approval and I almost cried on the spot. He took my passport and returned my original birth certificate.
He congratulated me and I left. I got back to my hotel room at 11 am, so the interview only lasted for 5 minutes.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
