Embassy Review : |
There were two lines at the front door, a shorter one for security and a longer one which appeared to be for initial triage. My appointment was at 0800 and I got there about 0745.
The initial queue was long but moved quickly, and an embassy staff member came down the line asking for interview times to make sure people were moving up in a timely fashion.
Once I got to the front of the queue, probably about 0800 (so slightly late), I was asked for my passport and DS-260 confirmation page.
As this was an immigration visa, I was then bumped to the front of the security queue.
Saw someone with at least a laptop and perhaps glass bottle of water get turned away to find somewhere to leave those items as I passed into security - so don't take a laptop!
Had to show mobile phone (i.e. that it was working as a regular phone) and go through airport style security - all items in my backpack including belt. Shoes stayed on.
Interview itself was in two stages - document check etc. and initial fingerprints, then a bit of a wait for the 'meat' of the interview - general questions about how we met, when we got married, whether either of us had been married before, whether we'd lived together, etc. Friendly and chill.
Unfortunately my NZ police vetting (equivalent of a police certificate, required as I was born and resided there) had not been forwarded from the US Consulate in Auckland to the London Embassy (which is the required procedure). So currently refused pending that getting sent through - I was advised probably 1-2 weeks before the visa is approved.
All in all not a bad issue to have. I was in and out in about an hour, although there was only one person doing the second interview and I think the wait time would increase as time went on - I think I was third in the queue for the day, luckily. |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
