Consulate Review: Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam
Review Topic: IR-2 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : November 18, 2024
Embassy Review : Appointment at 0740. Line to enter the consulate was very long but moved somewhat quickly. Started waiting to be called about 0800. First call to check documents at 0830. This is an interview for my under 18 year old stepson IR2 Visa. Only took his birth certificate, my marriage certificate, copy of mother's green card, and my birth cartificate (I'm a US citizen and the petitioner). Waited about two hours to be called for interview. They call numbers randomly. For example, my number was 1070 but numbers such as 1085 etc were called before us. Got to the interview with one US and one Vietnamese agent. One question "Where is your biological father". The US consular agent stamppled the document approved before the questions even asked by the Vietnamese agent. This my second time for an interview. First was with my wife a few years before. Only three questions to her. I suspect these visa approvals are really predetermined. Overall a good experience!
Rating : Very Good

My spouse just told me another questions at the interview that was asked and I think it may be important. This question was asked by the person collecting our documents not the interviewers. She was asked if she ever joined the Communist Party. Her answer was no. This question was in Vietnamese so I was not aware but I did see the officer annotate it on a checklist she was completing.

I don’t understand how nvc received date can be before consulate receive date and i130 sent date.

Well we are talking about government. Those were the dates based on the documents I received. I filed my I130 at the local consulate. Then filed the DS260 to NVC. It's a bit confusing to be sure

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
