Consulate Review: Montreal, Canada
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : September 14, 2008
Embassy Review : My husband and I attended his CR1 visa interview in Montreal on September 8, 2008. The folks at the consulate were clear, to the point, and generally easy to deal with. It's an intimidating process, so naturally we were nervous, but everything went off without a hitch.

A couple of points of preparation, even though it's all been said before elsewhere on VJ: don't bring a big bag -- they won't allow it inside. Cell phones and any other electronics will have to be left at the security desk. They don't allow food or drink from outside. However, there are water fountains and vending machines in the waiting room, so bring some change if you think you might get thirsty or hungry. Be prepared to spend a lot of time waiting (I recommend bringing something to read because the reading material in the waiting room will put you right to sleep: the books on American Literation and History look like they were published in the 1970s).

We stayed at Le Dauphin, which was a great and inexpensive hotel less than a five minute walk from the consulate. I definitely recommend it.

All in all, it was a positive experience and I have no complaints!
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
