Had interview set and did medical on April 17. Got referred for sputum. Have to wait 8 weeks for results so canceled interview.
June 2022: 8 weeks has past and embassy actually called and told him he is clear and can attend the interview we set up on June 17 (we set it up before getting results in anticipation of a negative result - didn't want to delay interview any longer).
Note that after interview it goes to administrative processing. India seems to take longer than other countries to get it to issued status it seems.
Status changed to issued on June 22. We opted for premium delivery. Visa received early morning June 25. Had to pay 605 RS.

Consulate
1. Your passport is checked against your appointment schedule.
2. You follow a well-marked route to a queue with you at the back end of it. This is the token window. At this window, you are asked for your passport and queried about your choice of language for the interview. This done, a token is allocated against your name. Your token number is called and you are advised to move to one of the 16 windows.
3. At this second window (first being the token window!); you are asked for your passport, a copy of support document (for K1); birth certificate, divorce decree (if applicable).
Expect some questions about you and your spouse.
You are asked to wait.
Your token number is called and you move to the specified window for the consular interview.
If the relationship is genuine, you need not worry. Just keep with you all the relevant documents and a copy for each original.
Time at the interview window: 7-8 minutes.
Usual airport style security check.
The officer was professional and polite. Appointment was for 7:30 am and out of there by about 8:15 am.
Questions that I was asked:
Have you ever been to America?
Where did we meet?
Fiance's hobby.
Show photographs
Have you ever spoken with any of the fiancé's children or friends?
VAC
1. Got there 40 minutes before time. At 30 minutes before scheduled appointment time, some of us were let in after scrutiny of the appointment confirmation letter/printout.
2. Leave all electronics outside, including smart watches. They scan you.
3. You follow a well-marked route in and out of the VAC. Just follow sign boards and human instructions. |

Long wait in line as many planes arrived at the same time at around 4 pm. Wait was about 2 hours. Once I approached the immigration officer, I handed him my passport and he asked for the package. He opened the package. I saw that it contained every document we ever submitted. He quickly scanned through each document. He asked me how we met, where I live in India, my fiancé's address. He then showed me two pictures that were in the package (copies of IDs that were submitted with letters to support the two year meeting). He asked me who each person was.
The whole process was conducted right at the window and lasted about 7 minutes.
By the time I got to the luggage, mine was pulled aside because it took so long in the line. I quickly grabbed my bag and got through customs with no inspection. |

Timeline Comments: 2Hello, I had a question about your medical. What does it mean for referred for sputum? Did the doctor not perform this test or was it an observation during the examination?
It was noted during the medical (X-Ray specifically). Any time the X-Ray shows a line or anything, they require that you go for a 3 day sputum test and wait 8 weeks for a negative result before proceeding. If you are positive, the result will come sooner. In our case, we went to our own doctor because the visa doctor does not even show you the X-Ray. There was nothing to be concerned about (thankfully) but because they noted it, we have to go through the whole process and wait. I don't know how many this happens to but while we were there, we noted a few doing this sputum test each day.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
