Consulate Review: Ghana
Review Topic: General Review
Event Description
Review Date : November 10, 2021
Embassy Review : I arrived at 7:00am for an 8:00am interview. Got called in at exactly 8:00am and waited for less than 10 minutes for the first check of documents. Then waited again for about 20 minutes before I was called to be interviewed. The consular officer was a lady and asked me to call out my name. She then wished me a happy Birthday and asked me to truth pledge.

Then the interview begin. She asked me the ff questions:

-Who is petitioning for you to come?
-Is he your biological father?
-Do you know when he came to the US?
-How did he come to the US?
-Is your mother in the US?
-Are your parents divorced?
-Is your father married to anyone ?
-Who does he live with?
-Does he have any other children apart from you?
-When did he become a US Citizen?
-when was the last time you saw him?
-Do you have any photos?- I had only two.

The consular officer then stepped out of the booth and brought back two sheets of paper. One was a refusal letter with instructions to submit some documents and the other was a dna request letter. She told me that she doesn’t have enough proof of our relationship so if I could provide more proof or do a dna test.
She then asked me to renew my passport and send it via dhl.

In all, I’m positive that after the dna test, I’ll be approved.

I was pleased with her treatment.

Thank you for sharing your experience. So basically had you provided a dna test with your evidence, you would’ve been good. This is good information for people applying for their children’s green cards.

You’re welcome. Yes I suppose. Yes it all depends on the consular officer. You can be asked two or three questions because they have all the information they need on their computer so it’s all about providing proof. That’s it.

I would think that type of proof would’ve been needed for the I-130 petition as well. Or did you submit it, but just didn’t bring it to your interview?

I don’t know if my father submitted a dna test for proof when filing the I-130 petition. But I doubt he did.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
