Comments : Port of entry was at JFK, NY. CBP officer asked what visa I was seeking entry with then asked for my sealed envelope and passport. After opening and briefly reviewing my documents he asked what state will I be getting married in and then after doing some typing he called over another officer and handed him my documents. I was told to follow this officer to have my entry processing finalized. We went to the secondary screening area and I was asked to sit and wait for my name to be called. After a short wait my name was called and the officer asked me basic questions about my final destination and then he told me I had 90 days to get married and file an adjustment of status to register permanent residence. He told me congratulations and handed me back my passport. Seamless P.O.E processing.

Event Description

Embassy Review : The interview was scheduled for 9am and I arrived at 8:45am. Security at the main entrance will ask for your information to verify whether you were scheduled for an interview that day. After a very short wait outside, I entered the embassy and walked towards the main receptionist desk. I was asked about my visa category, then I was handed a brown folder that had a list attached to the front explaining all the documents I had to arrange into the folder that was given to me. After organizing my documents into the brown folder, I handed this back to the receptionist and sat in the waiting area for my name to be called. After maybe 30 minutes I was called to window 1 of the immigrant visa section. At this window, an assistant will review all your documents to prepare the folder to be sent to the interviewing officer. There is a checklist that the assistant will go through to ensure you have all the documents that would be required for adjudication of your application. The assistant will also ask basic questions about your case, for example the address that you will stay at in the U.S and the name, address of your petitioner. If any documents are missing you will be aware at this point (birth certificates, certificate of character, financial documents, medicals, etc.) Once the assistant is finished you will be asked to sit and wait for your name to be called. My name was called to the interview window and I was greeted by a very friendly consular officer. She asked the following questions:
1. Tell me about your story
2. What did you do for Valentine's day?
3. What address will you stay at while in the U.S?
4. Where will you get married?
5. Why that state?
6. What does your fiancee do for work?
6. What do you do for work?
7. Is that the career you will pursue when in the U.S?
I answered each question honestly and succinctly and after the last question she told me I was approved and handed me the approval letter and I left the embassy. The visa and sealed envelope for D.H.S came in the mail 4 days after the interview.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
