Consulate Review: London, United Kingdom Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa Event Description Review Date : January 13, 2022 Embassy Review : Attended my IR1 visa interview today 13th January 2022 at US Embassy in London. Took the tube to Nine Elms station, and the walk from new station to the embassy is newly paved and well lit. It does not currently appear on google street view, but google will direct you through the new walkway; it made getting to the embassy super quick. I arrived early, 7:45am for a 9am appointment, I got a coffee at ‘District’ coffee shop not too far from the south pavilion. There was a huge queue at the south pavilion visa entrance when I initially walked past but when I went back at 8:15 it had died down. The person at the kiosk outside looked over my DS260 and passport, signed it and checked me in, and asked me to wait at the side till 8:30 to go in. I waited and as 8:30 approached she called me out and asked me to join the queue for the entrance. Before going in, the guard asked me to unlock my phone and open an app, which I did and was allowed to go in, where I went through normal airport style security screening. After this it was a short walk to the main embassy building, where there was a person at a desk checking people in, she asked those of us with 8:30 appointments to be on one side and 9am appointment on the other. She also called out for any Immigration applicants to come to the front, which I did. She printed out some labels and affixed them to my DS260 and told me to head upstairs to 1st floor and turn left and left again. Took elevator up and was a little shocked to see a busy room with many people waiting for their numbers being called, I realised that I needed to continue around the corner to the Immigration desks, which in contrast were quiet. My number was called within 10mins to head to a desk where a gentleman who spoke so softly that I had to really strain to hear him asked for originals of various documents and my passport photos. He asked several questions about previous marriages, convictions etc, and made notes on the document checklist he had in front of him. He did not request any of the various copies I had brought with me. He gave me a sheet of paper to read whilst I waited, which listed my legal rights as an immigrant in a domestic violence situation. I sat back down for another 10mins before I was called to a different desk where I was greeted by a lovely young man who asked me to raise my right hand and swear a short oath. He asked if I had read and understood the sheet I was given and if I had any questions. He noted that my medical results had not arrived, (exam was on the 5th Jan). After this he asked me some simple questions: -Is this your first marriage? -Is this your wife’s first marriage? -Is your wife living here with you in the UK? -Tell me about the details on your Police Certificate (all from 18 years ago) He seemed happy with my responses, I did show him further evidence of my wife’s relocation to the US, new job contract, pay roll cheques, copy of her new driver’s license, and he briefly looked over these but did not make copies. He finished by saying he was happy with everything and handed me back all my original documents. He gave me a blue form, saying that my application is refused under 221(g) pending submission of my medical results. He said he will hold onto my passport and once the medical results arrive, he will issue the visa and send it to me via the courier service. Overall I’m very happy with the outcome, I knew that the medical results may not have arrived (checked after the interview and was told they had been sent two days prior), and expect it all to be rectified in the next week or so. POE Review: Washington DC Event Description Entry Date : 2022-02-14 Embassy Review : Flew into Dulles, Washington DC. The airport is a little dated, and the Passport queues were big. I joined the US Citizens, Permanent Residents, Green Card Holders queue. Was directed by the people organising to the end booth where most of the crew / diplomatic passport holders were being seen to. The CBP officer was polite and looked over my IR1 Visa, asked if I had any food with me, which I did not, and then confirmed my address in the US, once this was done he stamped my visa and then stamped a second entry stamp and hand wrote ‘IR1’ and the ‘until’ line with one year from entry. No secondary screening; I was done and, on my way, to collect my bags, which were waiting for me. Customs did not check any of the 3 large bags, one cabin bag and laptop bag I had with me. Walked through into the arms of my wife and our dog. Harassment Level : Low
