Comments : We requested the NVC to transfer our case from Montreal to Guayaquil, Ecuador, and after 3 months of back-and-forth got notification of interview at Montreal for January 21st, 2022, several months ahead of when we expected it.

Already having moved to Ecuador, we then requested directly with Montreal to transfer the case. As it turns out, we needed to request Guayaquil to send the request to Montreal. They did so on December 27th, 2021. Since then, the only response that we have received from Montreal is that the request to transfer is "under review" and that it could take several months to process.

It is an electronic transfer (according to both consulates) and so we don't think it should take too long. We have contacted my state representatives to give Montreal a little push.

[UPDATE] Contacting the state representatives worked like a charm. We received notification from Guayaquil that the case had been transferred and were able to make an interview appointment very quickly. It only took two days after our representatives made a congressional inquiry into the Montreal consulate.

Wow your i130 approved so fast, your timeline gives me hope! Is the petitioner a US citizen or a permanent resident?
Bourney0 on 2021-03-25 said:
Yes, we were surprised at the speed. He is a U.S. Citizen. It looks like the bottleneck is at the consulate in Montreal. From what I can tell it looks like an 8-month wait from NVC approval to interview date for recent scheduled interviews in Montreal.

I've yet to have my i130 approved but I'm hoping to hear back soon then! Thanks for answering!

Best of luck!

Hi, congrats on the super fast i 130 approval! do you think the wait time is longer if petitioner is an LPR and not a citizen?

Hi, I really could not say. That might be a good question for the forums.

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.

** Not all cases are transfered
