Comments : Submitted 2021 W2 preview, pay stubs showing my income is above the threshold (by a lot, well above the median income in the US) and they said my income isn't enough. I think it might be based on the values of the form for I864 and they didn't consider my W2.

We needed to add an explanation for why our W2 is missing (I worked in Japan for 2020). I wrote a letter explaining that my job was WFH and that I could work from the US. I added it as "additional" document on the NVC document page and hit "Submit" button. This did NOT reset our submission date.

The interview appointment took longer than normal compared to other Japan IR1 interview letters. But we're happy to finally be on the final stretch!

Interview was incredibly chill, but we do have a daughter together and have been together for over 4 years, so there wasn't a lot of suspicion about our relationship. Just basic questions like, where and how did we meet, how long we've been together, why we're going to the United States. Nothing very "curve ball" like "what's your father in law's name" or anything like that. We over prepared for sure.

The medical result system has a delay sometimes, so we were put in administrative review, which meant we had to call the clinic and have them submit it again, but they did take our passport and told us we passed, and we got our Visa less than a week later.

Consulate Review: Tokyo, Japan
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description

Embassy Review : Approved!
We over-studied for sure.
General questions like "How did you meet?" "How long have you been dating?"
Nothing very deep like family names, in-laws or anything like that.
Oh and, "Did you ever visit the United States together?"

They were very nice. There was an issue with receiving our medical exam so they put us in administrative review, but told us we already passed and when they got the medical exam result, we would get the visa after.

They asked us to leave my wife's passport, which is a good sign because it means they need it to apply the visa to it.
Rating : Very Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
