Consulate Review: France
Review Topic: IR-1/CR-1 Visa
Event Description
Review Date : April 9, 2021
Embassy Review : I ended up arriving at the consulate about 1h before and was told they would only start admitting us 30’ before the scheduled time. There were 2 security checks before getting into the building.

Once in, I was asked to show my DS260 confirmation and take out my police certificates. She put a sticker on the back of my passport and directed me to a window where a woman was reviewing documents before the actual interview. There were 3 people ahead of me, which took c.45’.

At the window, the lady only took my original police and marriage certificates, as well as my long form birth certificate and translation. She then asked for a picture and the printout of my appointment registration.

The wait before the actual interview was short, the officer asked whether I wanted to continue in French or English and asked me to raise my hand and swear to tell the truth.

The line of questioning started around biographical questions, e.g., my college, grad school, what I do for a living. Then it moved to checking the police certificates and why I had so many .

There was a misunderstanding on the I-864, so he asked to see a job offer, which I had but didn’t need to.

In the final part of the interview, he went through what looked like a checklist of items to check (e.g., what classes of entry have you used to enter the US, any overstay?). The whole thing lasted 5-10’, the officer was very sympathetic and relaxed.

He then told me I was approved, wrote “APP” on my DS260, and told me I would receive the visa in a few days, after “some back office nonsense”

The final exchange was around the next steps: you must enter within 6 months, you’ll be on a path to citizenship, if you need to travel outside the us for more than a year tell USCIS ahead of time. He concluded with the signature “Welcome to the United States”; they should play “God bless the USA” as background music to make it more solemn
Rating : Very Good

Hi, congrats for your approval :) I'm from France, my PD is September 18th and still waiting for my NOA2...

@DVP I think it depends on where you’re applying from for me it was all online. The NVC portal is a pain to navigate though @Mogo Thanks! Hopefully you’ll get your NOA2 soon. Once you have that’s it’s pretty quick and more predictable. One piece of advice, get the civil documents and affidavit of support sorted ahead of time so you can submit everything right away.

Thank you for the advice, we're gonna do this :)

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
