Congrats!!!! Quick question: The US embassy at Mumbai received my application from NVC on 9/20. Did you have to reach out to them regarding packet 4 and if they could send it via email or did it come on it’s own to your door? Also, if you could share any interview tips that would be much appreciated!

Hi Adi,
We recently updated our timeline to record the sequence of event. Also, review the Notes section for more details.
US embassy would not share any information about Packet 4, except that you will have to wait for their packet 4 to arrive to schedule the interview.
In the mean time I would advise to do the following:
1. Start and finish your Police Certificate (PCC) Verification, as it takes few weeks to finish and also PCC is not dependent on any process. PCC is also valid for 1 year.
2. Fill out your DS-160 form on CGI federal and keep it ready so that you can pay once your packet 4 arrives. Embassy would normally show you interview dates 2-3 weeks from the date you start looking
3. Keep monitoring Visa Journey and progress of other cases. This statistical data greatly helped us take some risky decisions (calculated risk) due to personal reasons.
Please feel free to reach out in case you have any other questions.

Hello, might be a dumb question but what exactly is Packet 4? What about Packet 3? What would've happened if Packet 4 had not arrived before your interview? Thanks for the help

Hello Anup/Deepali, Congratulations!! I have a question. Where did you guys complete your medical? I am planning to complete it in Rele clinic, Mumbai. I see that in their website "K" visa is under non-immigrant, so a letter from the Embassy is needed to be uploaded for the appointment. I am guessing this is the packet4 letter. Were you able to get the appointment without the letter or are other clinics do not have this obligation?? Thank you in advance!

Hey, congratulations on your visa approval!
Just a couple of questions:
Did you do your biometrics and medicals on the same day? And how long did it take to receive your medical reports? Did you have to pick it up on your own?
Did you submit your DS160 after you received your case number?
Is there a provision to keep mobile phones in lockers at the consulate on the day of the interview?
Thank you in advance and all the best! :)

Also, were interview dates easily available?

@JD2,
Packet 4 is the set of instructions (along with approved I-129F form) sent by the Embassy to the Beneficiary's address in India. Ideally, you are supposed to start all the process (Medical, Police Verification and scheduling Interview) once you receive those Packet 4 instructions.

@Seraph,
Yes, Rele Clinic in Mumbai is the only clinic certified to do the medical for US embassy. So no other clinic would be eligible. Yes, Packet 4 letter is required to schedule the appointment at Rele clinic.

@MinaPartha:
Appointment for Biometrics is provided by US embassy once you schedule your interview dates on cgifederal website. Biometerics appointment will be scheduled 2-3 days prior to Interview appointment by the US embassy.
Medical appointment are to be scheduled by the Beneficiary once we receive Packet 4 from US embassy. It is advisable to start the tasks in Sequence: Police Verification -> Medical -> File DS-160 -> Biometrics and Interview appointment.
Packet 4 letter will provide additional guidance
It took around 2 days to get the medical report, and yes the Beneficiary is suppose to go to Rele clinic in person (along with Government issued photo ID) to collect the sealed medical report. You should NOT open the sealed envelop, and that is to be handed over to the person taking the interview.
Yes, We submitted DS-160 after receiving case number.
Yes, there is a provision to keep mobile phones in lockers at the US embassy (Mumbai). I believe that would be a paid facility.
Interview dates are roughly available 2-3 weeks from the day you are scheduling. So keep that estimation in mind while planning your trip to Mumbai and other appointments

Hi, first off, congratulations! We are now at NVC and hoping the application will ship to Mumbai next week.
We started PCC, Medicals - I saw online that there's a hospital (CMM) in Hyderabad that can do Medicals fine? Does it have to be in Mumbai? Also can we do biometrics in Hyd and interview in Mumbai?
Also, you say "biometrics appointment will be scheduled" - is that automatic once an interview date is selected or we have to book that also? Also, what's the cgifederal website. We just want to be ready ahead of time and submit when case changes to Ready status (that's what we are supposed to do right?).

Medical can be done at clinics which are approved by NVC. You may check the website to see what clinics are approved in your area.
Biometrics is automatically scheduled by the embassy when you schedule for Interview . Most likely it would be Mumbai location as the biometrics is just couple of days before the interview.
CGI federal is where you would submit and pay for DS-160 and then schedule your interview.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
