I had my K1 Visa printed on my passport with a footnote stating NIE TO PRESIDENTIAL PROCLAMATION plus an e-mail received by the US Consulate of Naples (Italy) saying that I was granted a National Interest Exemption to the current presidential proclamation 9993 and I had to enter the USA within 30 days from the issuance date.
I flew to Amsterdam where I would have changed the flight and I had no issue with the local authority.
Once I got to Chicago O'Hare Port of Entry I had to go through the Customs stands as many other international visitors/visa holders in line with me.
I showed my package to the Officer who started asking a few questions about my US Fiance and our relationship. He did not take me to any specific rooms and everything went smoothly. He took my finger prints and a picture of me. He reminded me that I have 90 days to marry my US fiance and let me go.
I took my luggage from the baggage reclaim and I went through a second security check. The Officer asked me why I had with me so much luggage (4 pieces) and I explained that I was moving to the US on a K1 Visa. He did not want to see my visa and let me go.

I was adjusting from a K1 Visa.
The appointment was on time and did not take very long (30 minutes circa).
The lady who interviewed us was nice and tried to put us at ease. We went trough the main questions of form I-485 like names and surnames, dates of birth and addresses.
After that she asked how met and for how long we have been dating. She also casually asked about the K1 Visa's footnote which reported the voice NIE - national Interest Exemption.
She then asked us to give her whatever we had to prove that our relationship was bona fide: so I handed her pictures, life insurance, car title, lease agreements and the profile page of my husband's bank account where my name was included among the family member section (we could not create a joint bank account as his bank needed my SSN for which I am still waiting).
She noted everything on a piece of paper attached to our case folder and that's it.
She said she recommended approval and told us to renew the card within 90 days prior it's expiration.
After less than an hour my case status turned "Card is being produced". |

Timeline Comments: None yet, be the first!
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
