Montreal airport
Was carrying the pink slip folder with me through customs so when it was my turn, they took me and my fiance to another waiting area. Took my folder + passport and told me to wait while they went through it. Called me ~15min later and handed me back my passport with a new stamp in it, told me to get married within the 90 days and sent us on our way. |

SSN - August 30 Called my local SSA in Santa Clara County to get an appt. Received confirmation email at the end of the week and scheduled appt on September 9th. Printed out my I94 to have it ready.
- September 9 Attended appointment at the San Jose SSA office, they did not let my fiancé in with me. Took about 2 hours (mostly waiting). They only wanted my completed SS5 form, passport (they made a photocopy and gave it back) and the I94 paper. I do not intend to change my name after marriage so there was no need to book another appt with them. Was handed a paper that said it'll take about 4 to 6 weeks to receive it.
- September 29 SSN Issued and got it in my mailbox a week later
INTERVIEW (not expedited)
Feb9 - Got an interview date for March10 but it got cancelled 24h later ):
March11 - Interview scheduled for April 7th, hoping it's good this time
April7 - Walked in 15min before appt time with my husband and was given a number slip after showing ID and the appt letter. Went through airport style security and sat in waiting room for about 5-10min before being called in.
(Almost missed the call, as I thought they were going to use the PA system or show my number on the screen, but no it was simply someone who came out at the opposite end of the room where I was seated and say the number. I suggest you pay attention since I almost missed it).
Was led into a small office and was asked to swear an oath.
Questions were: my full name / my work in canada / my education / where I live now / parents name / how we met / what I like about my husband
Also went through some of the yes/no questions that were on pages 10 to 14 in the 485 form. My husband was invited to answer some questions about his salary, his work, what he likes about me.
Documents that were asked were:
- My original birth certificate (was not asked the translated copy I had. Handed it back to me after looking at it)
- Original Marriage license (took the photocopy I had ready)
- Proof of us living together: I had lease, renters insurance, health insurance, joint bank account, photos, internet bills ( took everything)
He then asked my husband for recent pay stubs, which I did not have ready, so the officer did a quick search and saw that we recently filed taxes so he says it should be fine.
Was given a paper that says he will be reviewing our files and we might either receive an approval, a RFE or another interview summon and that nothing on our part is needed at the moment. I asked him how long will he need to come to a decision on our case, and he said it will be either today or tomorrow and to look out for an update on the portal and walked us back to the waiting room.
Went in at 9:30, came out at 10:15.
April 8 - Case was Approved in the USCIS portal. |

-Biometrics appointment-
They let me in 30min ahead of my appointment, went through airport style security, straight up to the counter to get a number and had no wait time. 5min in and out.
Just a quick note to let people know that there is a SEPARATE line at the entrance for Biometrics appointment. Be sure to go straight up to the door to get in that line and not wait in the very loooonnngg line of people forming outside. Almost missed it if I didn't decide to just heck it and bypass the line to get a better look up close.

Timeline Comments: 8 NatK on 2021-06-30 said: Hi there! My fiance and I have a very similar timeline to yours. Just curious how they sent you the P4 - via mail or email? We got our P3 on June 7 and sent it back the same day. But nothing yet regarding our P4 or interview date...
My fiance (US) received it in his email actually.
NatK on 2021-06-30 said: Oh interesting! Thanks for letting me know. And congrats on the interview!
Thank you!
Also, I forgot to specify, the email didn't explicitly say "P4" it just says when the interview date is and how to prepare for it.
NatK on 2021-06-30 said: That's super helpful, thank you! We will keep and eye out for that correspondence. All the best!
Thanks! Wish you all the best too!
Hi, did you expedite your case by chance? If so, what were your reasons behind it (If you dont mind me asking)?
No expedite, but they ended up cancelling the interview 24h after they scheduled it 🥲. Timeline had been updated, sigh
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
