I took the train from Stuttgart to Frankfurt, got there around 0708. i went to the medical appointment prior to the interview, which i would recommend, bc at the embassy they ask if you already went to the medical. the doctor´s office opens at 0730. so i was one of the first, had to fill out a form about deseases. i returned that to the receptionist and then she took my information, passport, picture, money. she sent me into the basement to the lab, where my blood, urin, and a x-ray of my chest was taken. i had to wait for the x-ray pic (approx. 5 min), went back upstairs, where i waited for about two minutes until the doc called me in. he checked my reflexes, eyesight, bloodpressure and checked my immunization papers. i had an antibody test prior to the medical to proof that i was still immun against the coomon deseases they ask for. unfortunately they recently added a shot agains (Gebärmutterhalskrebs) which i obviously didn´t have. so, the doc told me that i need that shot first (cost 150€) and fax the proof to their office and only then they can forward all my medical info to the embassy. that was a little bummer, since i really tried to have everything in order BEFORE the interview. oh well, i got the shor on the next day at my doctor´s office and faxed it the same day. so no big harm was done.
i was done at the medical around 0830, took a taxi to the embassy and got my waiting number around 0845. i was done at the embassy around 1100.
at the embassy in frankfurt they have you take a number outside, where they also check off your name on a list. you stand in line outside and call you into the first checkpoint in groups of four or five people. you have to go through a metall detector and put your stuff through an x-ray machine. then you proceed into the main hall where this really nice guy points you into the right direction. my number was already called so i went to the assigned window. (there are electronic boards on the wall that show your number and the window you have to go to) the lady gave me a check list that told me in which order my papaers and forms had to be in, an envelope that i had to address and put stamps on and she took my passport. i sat down and completed everything she asked me to do. there is also an copy machine in case you have to make copies. it´s fifty cents a piece, and i would recommend you make copies of EVERYTHING before you go to the interview. i waited about 20 minutes until my number was called. i went to a different window, where a man took all my papers and told me to sit down again. after about another 15 minutes my number was called again and i went to the same guy. he explained everything to me, how long it would take, etc, i had to sign the bottom of the forms in his presence and in case you have to change something like passport number or addresses they have you do it right there. it was no big deal that i recently got a new passport. then i had to sit down again and had to wait for the actual interview with the embassador. that took longer, i waited for approx. 30-45 min. i went to the window, my fingerprints where taken with a scanner and he asked me questions about my fiance, about his parents, if he had siblings, if i had visited his home town before, etc. i would recommend you make sure you know a couple of "dates" especially if your fiance is in the military. when he has been where and how long. after the interview was over i could leave the embassy and was done for the day. all in all everything went really smoothly. the waiting times were a little annoying, but that was expected. you might want to bring a book. last but not least, no electronic devices whatsoever are allowed. no cell phones, etc. make sure you leave tjem at home in case you come to frankfurt with the train, bc there are no lockers to store things. |
