Comments : We married on April 20th, 2007. We mailed our I-130 on April 25th, it arrived on April 27th. USCIS posted it online as received on May 19th but we did not receive the NOA1 until july 7th! Which we were desperately waiting for in order to mail in our K-3 application. For others in our situation, don't wait, mail it in with evidence instead of the I-797!

Comments : The northwest provides a jolly group of border officers... according to rumour a bit more chilled than for example Texas. So if you don't want to be harassed, consider landing in Seattle or maybe Portland.

Consulate Review: Sweden

Event Description
Review Date : January 23, 2008
Embassy Review : 2007-12-11 The automated NVC phone said my case had been completed and sent to the embassy. I called the NVC, and a person informed me that my interview was on Jan 2nd.

2007-12-17 The appointment letter from the embassy arrived, confirming the time for the interview.

2007-12-27 I did the medical exam (roughly 380 USD). The doctor assured me that he would send the papers to the embassy so they would have it within a week. The appointment letter gave two options for "certified" doctors who could perform the examination in stockholm, I chose the one who got back to me the fastest and was able to schedule an appointment.

2008-01-02 The consulate interview - I had to sign the DS-230 part 2 in front of the consular, as well as hand over a missing tax form of my wife, that was requested. All other documents had already been processed by the NVC. The consular and he informed me that the only thing pending was my medical exam, that had not yet arrived. As soon as it did they would issue the visa and send it. No questions asked. The whole thing, including security check, waiting time etc. took me an hour.

2008-01-10 The embassy receives the medical exam from my doctor. It took a week longer than predicted because the doctor went on vacation and left my file on his desk for two weeks, and when I called him and asked what had happened he lied and said he had sent it, which prompted me to call the postal service for a few hours and having helpful people run around and look for a lost package that supposedly had been mailed a week ago. Sum up: Don't use the clinic that starts with "h", use the other option. After paying 380 dollars for a 10 minute chat with the doctor I at least expected him to mail the package on time.

2008-01-14 The appointment letter for my interview on January 2nd arrived... two weeks after the appointment, having taken the New Zealand route according to the post stamp

2008-01-15 The visa finally arrived. If the doctor hadn't delayed the medical exam I am confident I would have got it in a couple of days. The embassy was professional, helpful, and most importantly fast.
Rating : Good

*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
