Overall very smooth process. Stayed at the Best Western 1 block from the consulate as my interview was at 9am. Checked out the consulate building the evening before my interview just to make sure I knew where I was going. Walked in the morning and got to the consulate doors 10 min before interview. Officer made me wait outside for 5 min. then let me in. Go thru airport style security and then up elevator to 1st floor. Immediately went to the first window to drop off my passport then sat down for 1 hour before getting called up to a different window where a friendly lady asked for the original docs I had brought including latest tax return for my wife. Sat back down for another hour before getting called up to a 3rd window for the actual interview. A different very friendly lady that asked when and where I had been married. When and where we met. What we both did for work. What my financial sponsor did for work. And finally where I had traveled internationally in the past 5 years. I said Mexico and US. She then asked what my longest stay in US had been and I told her 6 months during covid. She said OK and handed me my welcome letter and said I was good to go. Thankyou Jesus. Passport arrived 11 days later and we picked it up in the morning and drove to the border the same day. Paying the 200$ fee on the way. Border crossing to 10 min maybe. Officer asked for passports, took them inside and same back in a few minutes saying good to go. Did not check out any of our belongings in the back of the pickup. We've been in Michigan for 2 weeks and I just received my ssn in the mail. Still waiting for green card. Big thankyou to all the support from everyone on here. So helpful to connect with others that understand. |

Timeline Comments: 6Hey there congratulations. Thank you Jesus is right!!!!
I wanted to ask you about the border crossing. Did you cross with your car?
You are probably the fastest person to cross the boarder in terms of crossing after getting the passport and
in terms of them processing you at the border.
I am planning to bring my car with me and I am not sure what is the process for that.
Do you mean evtry date Hawk rider? Just added. And yes we crossed with our own vehicle. I had a compliance letter from the GM manufacturer stating that the vehicle was up to US standards but they never asked for any info on the vehicle. As far as I know there didn't seem to be any process at the border.
When I left the original comment in February of this year, your interview date had not yet been added to the timeline; what I typed then was exactly what I meant :)
I see , interesting, most people had to get out of the car and go inside and complete paper work and show that the car was up to the usa standards with TPM installed (tire pressure monitor) and a dashboard in miles.
Did you have a dashboard that is in miles on your car and a TPM installed before you crossed?
If you did not, I wonder how would the manufacturer give the letter that the car is up to usa standards?
Thank you !!!
Our truck is a 2017 so the dash switches to miles and does have tpm but we were never asked for any proof or anything. Maybe we got lucky but I doubt they could stop you from crossing if you didn't have tpm or miles.
*Notice about estimates: The estimates are based off averages of other members recent experiences
(documented in their timelines) for the same benefit/petition/application at the same filing location.
Individual results may vary as every case is not always 'average'. Past performance does not necessarily
predict future results. The 'as early as date' may change over time based on current reported processing
times from members. There have historically been cases where a benefit/petition/application processing
briefly slows down or stops and this can not be predicted. Use these dates as reference only and do not
rely on them for planning. As always you should check the
USCIS processing times to see if your application
is past due.
